Ways To Organize A Closet That Actually Work
Jasmine Holt

My closet is my biggest nightmare. It's a constantly growing, ever changing, and very large part of my life. Every morning I go to my closet and pick out what I'm going to wear and sometimes it takes me 30 minutes, depending on the day. But one problem I never have with my closet is the way it's organized. I probably have the most organized closet out of everyone I know and I pride myself on it. Here are some of my tips to having a pristine and organized closet.

1. Color coordinate.

Color coordinating your closet is such a good idea for so many reasons. Color coordinated closets honestly look better and you’re never left searching for a green top because it should be right between the yellow and blue tops! The good thing about color coordinating a closet is that once you do it once you never have to do it again, you just have to put away your clothes so that they’re with the proper color.

2. Put bags inside of bags.

If you have a lot of bags, backpacks, or purses it really saves a lot of space if you put them inside each other. For instance if you have a duffel bag maybe put a backpack in there and a few small purses inside the backpack. This way instead of having tons of bags everywhere you only take up the space of having one duffel bag!

3. Sort by style.

Sorting clothing by style really helps for when you're trying to pick something out and it also looks really neat. I organize my closet by cardigans/jackets, long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, dresses, and pants. I don't just mix them all together. Once I have them categorized by style I organize them by color so it looks super neat and it's way easier to choose from when I'm picking out an outfit! It also helps with picking clothes for certain kinds of weather.

4. Invest in organizers

You can get different kinds or organizers for your closet just about anywhere. There are scarf organizers, shoe organizers, belt organizers and so many more that you can hang in your closet. Personally I use a scarf organizer and it only takes up the space that one hanger would. You can find hangers like these at target, Walmart and on Amazon!

5. Hang items properly.

This is such a simple thing that not a lot of people do in their closets. Hanging items the way they should hang keeps your clothing in good condition and helps your closet look neat and organized! If you hang things properly nothing falls off hangers and ends up messily on the floor. Try hanging tank tops and thin strapped shirts on hangers with indentions. Hang shirts with tighter necks on hangers without indentions and also make the most of those annoying little strings on the insides of some shirts and dresses and use them to actually hang the item instead of cutting them out! I would also recommend folding pants according to how they should look when you wear them. If you have dress pants you should hang them sideways so they have natural pleats in them and if you hang jeans or casual pants hang them straight across on the edges so the middle of the pants don't get stretched out or pulled too much!

6. Hang items backwards.

I live for this tip. At the beginning of every year or season I always hang all of my clothing hangers backwards. As I wear clothes and put them back into my closet I hang the hangers the proper way and then at the end of the season or year whichever items still have the hanger backwards I didn't wear and I get rid of them. This is such a helpful trick because you're able to clean out your closet in one easy way and you know for a fact you didn't wear an item. This eliminates the whole deal of “did I ever even wear this?” and I feel way less guilty giving an item away that I know I never wore!

Hopefully these tips helped and I hope someone's closet looks a little neater because of this!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
