The infamous "Netflix and Chill" stands for more than just those simple three words. Back then going to see a movie in the theaters made life so much easier because you were able to go home after the date, which either ended in a God-awful kiss and pledging to never see them again, or hoping for another date with Prince Charming.
"Netflix and Chill" has formed a hidden innuendo of sex, which gives some the delight to accept, and others the feeling of either going in blindly thinking it's okay and realizing otherwise, or knowing their worth and wanting more than just that. When I say, "Netflix and Chill," I mean just that, but with the growing stigma surrounding it, one can't be too sure nowadays. Some may ask whether you really like the guy or gal and think they're cute, but don't want to mess things up and have them keep their eye on you. Well, here are a few tips on what you can and might not want to do when asked that question. If you're the one popping the question, which I doubt if you're reading this, then, you sly fox, go ahead and use this knowledge. But, remember, as Spider-Man once said, "With great power comes great responsibility."
1. Have your siblings/friends around you.
If you happen to be at home and not stuck in your dorm, you can suggest that your Netflix buddy come over. Knowing you have company they don't expect will help ensure nothing else truly goes on besides the intended. You don't need to scar your little sister, Sarah, with its other hidden meaning. Furthermore, by suggesting to bring a friend and making it a group movie night, the latter can be prevented. Now after that, it's all up to you.
2. Be straightforward.
Be honest. Tell them what you want and how that's not what you hoped your first date with them would result in. If you're really into this person then you should show him or her that you're serious. If they just want one intended thing, move on! You're worth more than a $7.99 subscription that you can steal from your BFF.
3. Set up a call with a friend.
If your best friend can pretend to be your lesbian lover to get a guy off your back then she can definitely call you when you need to bail on a bad "Netflix and chill" date. Ask your friend to call you 30 minutes to an hour after you start your "date" and pick up, using it as your get away card or your safety net if you're nervous and would like to stay. Either way, it's nice to have a pal on your side.
4. Just say no.
If all fails just say NO! It's ok to not want to "Netflix and chill" and it's ok to just do what those three words really mean. (No, I'm not talking about the sex). You have the power use it!
