A Few Ways to De-Stress from the Stress of Finals
Shawna Martin

Don't let the stress of dealing with finals, stress you out!

Finals - the death of all college students brains'. While I have only been through one round of finals, I am preparing for my next round and they have already fried my brain. While balancing schoolwork, a job and studying for finals in every class - all students practically crumble under the stress and pressure of having to do well. If you don't struggle with studying, hit me up with some tips (please). While the stress can drive a student absolutely bonkers, I can't explain how important it is to make sure you set aside time each day to relax and breathe. Here are just a few of the most fun ways to de-stress from the awful stress of finals week....

Snag you a hammock, your favorite Sonic drink and some good friends and spend the WHOLE afternoon outside

You would be surprised what a nice afternoon soaking up the sunshine would do for you. After focusing your eyes on a screen the majority of the day (whether you are studying on your electronic device or browsing social media on your "study break"), your eyes really could use a chance to get away from the heavy overload of looking at a screen. Go to your local park, your favorite spot on campus or the local nature center and find the PERFECT place to lounge around or a bit.

Jam out to your favorite songs whether it is in your room or in a car

Get that Spotify playlist ready because you will need it. Whether you are one of those students who need noise to focus or one that needs complete and utter silence - you will need this time eventually. I've really started to hit up my Disney playlist and I'm sure I have annoyed my roommate to no end (sorry Maddie) because it is ALLLLLL the Disney movie soundtracks, the best clearly being How Could I Make a Man Out of You off of Mulan (amirate)? Around Christmas we hardcore jammed out to some goooooddd Christmas music but thankfully my roommate can focus no matter what is going on. #blessings

Go to Walmart

I know...I know...Walmart? Is she actually serious? You clearly don't know how much fun Walmart can be when you are with your friends with nothing to do. Walmart is the perfect place to people watch for HOURS, see some people you normally don't and look at all the stuff you want to buy but know your bank account can't do it. My friends and I go to Walmart just to browse or literally just to walk around because there are only so many ways to walk around campus and not get tired of seeing the same buildings, but Walmart always changes things up.

Homie, take a nap and forget about why you were stressing in the first place

What is a better way to de-stress about finals than to forget about them all together for a few hours?! Sometimes it is just nice to "get away" from the thought of school for a little bit, especially around this time. While it isn't in the nice comfort of your room, your dorm bed will do just fine. Hide the study material, curl up, dim the lights and turn off your phone. Your brain needs a few hours to rejuvenate itself after all the studying you've been doing. Reward it.

Take a nice long shower/bath

Honestly, what doesn't a shower help? Whether you are taking it at the beginning, middle or end of the day, it is always nice to let yourself enjoy a hot shower. The thought of no one bothering you and actually being able to enjoy not having to stress about finals for 15 minutes is amazing. It allows you to rethink and bring yourself back to the calmness you had before you wanted to throw all of your study material out of your dorm window.

While nothing can completely take the stress away from finals, a few hours away from it all to clear your head will help more than you know. These few tips help me de-stress so hopefully they work for you too!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
