With very busy schedules, college students often feel like they don't have time to add anything into their schedule, much less do they have time to be creative. Bringing creativity into your life is an important part of wellness, but one that is typically overlooked. Here are easy ways to bring wellness into your own life when you're in college.

Accept that you're creative

Everyone is creative. While you might not be someone who creates art, that doesn't mean that you aren't creative. We all have different ways of expressing ourselves, and it's important to embrace those ways.

Try something new

One way to easily make yourself more creative is just to change up your routine. At this point in the semester, everyone has fallen into the same schedule every day, but if you vary it, even if you just walk home a different way, you're being more creative.

Solve a puzzle

Whether this is a jigsaw puzzle or solving a problem in a way you haven't thought about it before, you're using your brain in a different way. By doing this, it's one easy way to be more creative.

Write about your day and feelings

So many college students use Twitter as their diary, so it would be easy to just write your feelings down instead. Putting your feelings on paper allows you to look back on the day. Just writing things out lets you process what happened. Writing is a great way to express yourself, and by writing about your day, you don't have to come up with an idea to write about.

Dance

Dancing is a great way to work out. If you already work out frequently, you can change a workout to include dance, and you're already being more creative.

Draw

Whether they're doodles or actual art that you put a lot of effort into, drawing is a good way to get creative. It doesn't have to take a long time and can be very relaxing.

Meditate

Mediating is not only relaxing, but it can help you refocus after a long day. It can be a time to think and reflect of the day, or if you repeat a phrase in your meditation, it can be a way to inspire you for the next day.

Go to an Open Mic Night

Whether you're presenting a new piece of work and want to have a smaller audience to debut it at, or want to watch other people perform, Open Mic Nights are a great way to express your creativity. Even if you don't want to perform, being around other people who are expressing their creativity puts you in the mindset to be more creative.

Tell your story

Whether you're writing a memoir or just sharing stories from your childhood, telling your story allows you to think about what was important and formative to your personality, but also allows you to think about what details are most important for telling a compelling story.

Take pictures

Photography is a good way to look at things from a new perspective. It also embraces the beauty of average things in everyday life. Taking pictures is something that everyone can do, everyone has a camera on their phone. All you need to do is spend a few minutes looking at what interests you to take a picture of.

 Read

Reading is something that many college students do, but very few read for fun. Whenever I read, I feel inspired to write. Reading is something that is very easy to do, you just have to find the time to do so.

 Jam to your favorite music

Listening to your favorite songs can inspire you. Even just listening to your music can put you in the right mindset and help you think in a way that you normally wouldn't.

 Learn a language

Similar to solving a puzzle, learning a language gives you a way to look at the world and a new way to solve problems. Learning a language is a unique way to encourage yourself to be more creative.

 Go to an art museum

College students very rarely visit art museums. At art museums if you're a visual artist, you can draw sketches of the art in order to better your own art. If you're not, you can take the moment to enjoy art that other people created.

Take a moment just to think

Taking a moment just for yourself allows you to think about things that you might not have been able to think about naturally throughout the day. By allowing yourself to think, you're able to problem solve in a focused environment.

 Take a walk outside

Being in nature is a good way to feel more creative. Looking at the trees and leaves around you is a good way to feel inspired, either to take pictures or to create something new.

Think of something in a new way

If you've been dealing with the same issue for a while, taking a step back and then trying to look at it with new eyes is an important way to be creative. Not only does it give you the chance to solve problems you have, but it is something that you don't have to make extra time in order to try.

 Laugh

Laughter is so important. Not only does it make you happier, but it is also something associated with creativity. Whether you're laughing at a joke that you've read or heard, you're expressing yourself creatively when you do it.

 Listen to new music

Everyone loves listening to music and discovering new music. By finding new music, you get to feel creative by experiencing something new.

Being creative doesn't mean that you have to put in a lot of effort and try to make huge changes. You just need to make small changes to your normal routines, look for new perspectives, and let yourself try new things in order to be more creative.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
