1. Quit comparing yourself to others.

Be you this year. Quit being other people. Find who you are and recognize your worth. Stretch your "you" legs, and gain confidence in yourself by stopping the comparing.

2. Be authentic.

In the pursuit of being yourself, do not lose who you are. It is easy to define yourself by who you hang around, and to allow what they do to become what you do. But don't allow yourself to be dragged down by their actions. Do you.

3. Live off less than what you make.

Try your best to live off 80% of what you make. Save 10% for a rainy day, and give 10% away. Giving will change your life, and it will make you a happier person.

4. Invest in people.

Spend time with people and pour into their lives. Helping someone grow will make you a better person.

5. Get a mentor.

Not only do you need to be pouring into someone, have someone pour into you as well. Get someone who is older and wiser than you to pour into your life. People are pretty cool when you get to know them

6. Read some books.

Whether you read a book a month, or a book a week, read some books. Fiction, nonfiction, biographies, doesn't matter. Just read.

7. Quit letting fear get in the way.

If you have a dream or a goal, pursue it relentlessly. Love yourself and others, but pursue your dreams.

8. Schedule yourself.

Instead of stressing every minute about the next minute, get a planner and write out your day. It will help you stay focused, and your memory will increase because you won't be stressing about forgetting something.

9. Volunteer somewhere.

Give your time and energy to something outside of yourself. Provide for something bigger than you and it will give you a sense of purpose.

10. Have a Sabbath.

Whether you are a Christian/Jew or not, the idea of having a day off to rest is beneficial to everyone. Take time to breathe and grow yourself. Relax for 1/7 of the week, it won't kill you.

11. Learn a new big thing.

Whether it is learning how to drive a stick shift, or learning to ride a bike, learn how to do something new and useful. Try knitting or mechanic work, expand your knowledge.

12. Change your diet.

Instead of buying fast food all the time, go grocery shopping. Pick up some grapes, cook your own food, be your own man/woman, don't let McDonald's determine your waistline.

13. Socialize.

Go make new friends. People are pretty cool once you get to know them. That sounds familiar.

14. Fast from social media.

Put the phone down for a day or week or month and notice the planet that is around you. Boredom shouldn't be possible if we talk to the people around us.

15. Stick to your commitments.

Keep your word for all of 2018. If you say you will be somewhere, do it. Baring any life-altering tragedies, be a person of your word no matter what.

16. Try new foods.

If you eat sushi, it will change your life.

17. Learn to communicate.

Whether with your parents, or spouse, or significant other, or friends, we all have issues so we need to deal with these issues correctly. Talk through things with honesty and gentleness. Explain yourself and why you do things. It will help with your relationships. Learn to listen well, and speak well.

18. Be content with what you have.

This goes back to the comparison, but greed is unending so learn to be happy with what you have. Better yourself, but be content with your possessions.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
