On Friday, Jan. 31, Netflix released a Taylor Swift's documentary called "Miss Americana."
The documentary was directed by Lana Wilson and is full of everything we needed to know more about Taylor Swift's life.
Not only do we get insight on her songwriting process, recording sessions, and home videos from when she was younger, we learned about her eating disorder, a deep dive into the Kanye West drama, and the depression caused by the public scrutiny she got just from being herself.
Taylor goes into detail about the drama with Kanye West starting way back in 2009 at the VMA's when she received the Moonman for Video of the Year and Kanye got on stage and said that Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time.
When this happened, we all kind of cringed at the moment and hated on Kanye for doing that to Taylor when she didn't do anything, but we didn't know about how much that hurt her and caused her a lot of self-doubt moving forward with her career.
Later on in the film, we learned a lot about how much Taylor was controlled and scolded before she posted an Instagram photo with a caption that expressed her political views.
The thought process and fight that Taylor went through to post, for the first time ever, this political statement was extremely thoughtful and had so much passion behind it.
Taylor talked about how she's always been told to be the "good girl" and don't get involved in politics or step in any hot water, but she decided on her own to go against what she was told and do what she felt was right to be on the "right side of history."
This documentary isn't just for Swifties, it's for everyone. As a Swiftie myself, this documentary really helped me understand the side of Taylor Swift that we don't get to see, but for those who aren't fans, you will get to understand the parts of Taylor that have caused you to dislike her.
A lot can be said for a celebrity who was brave enough to put their raw life and experiences in a video for the world to see in a different light.
