I ask you to turn, find a mirror, or your phone and open the camera. Look at yourself, your reflection. I would bet for many of you, your first thought is something about your appearance, but I want you to look past that. Truly look at where you are in life, and no, not the, “What’s my GPA? Am I dating? Do I have enough money for this?”
I mean look at the point in life where you are, and how much that really should mean to you. Most of us are at an age where things are changing, we are becoming adults and with adulthood comes responsibility. We are all together, a part of the generation that has the most potential that the world has ever seen.
Right now, we are coming to the point where we as a generation have to make a decision of who we will be, and what our impact on this world is going to be. Are we going to be the generation that stepped up, took control, fought for what we wanted and tried to return the United States to the power it once was? Or are we going to be the generation that stood by, and let the generations before us remain in control, getting what they want, even though it will soon no longer be their world?
It should be clear to you by now, that our nation is in trouble. We are not the United States that you read about in your texts books, the greatest inventors, the greatest economists, the greatest teachers, the greatest doctors…flat out, we are not the greatest country in the world anymore, and that is something that we cannot be OK with, and should not accept as the reality. Why?
Because we can change that, we can bring back this country back to the state that we are told about by our parents and grandparents. We can do it together, but only together. Drop the hand-me-down beliefs that we got from our parents, and find what you really believe. Step outside or your circle, your comfort zone for just a little bit, and find out what you truly believe in.
Once you have done this then you are free, you’ve found what you want to fight for, so fight for it. Inspire others, the shy ones; the self-centered ones who are too focused on the things that will not matter 10 years from now. We are at the age where we hold not only our dreams, but also the dreams of future generations in our hands.
We cannot accept a future that is just given to us by the previous generations, we must build our own. The one that we want, the one we need. So if you will not try to change the world for yourself, do it for the future generations. We cannot leave this country in the way that the past generations left it for us.
We are the change it needs, and we need to be that change.
Together.
