The War Against Yourself

You are worth saving

The War Against Yourself
Ten By Rosie

When asked to describe yourself, what do you say?

Do you define yourself as your appearance, your accomplishments or your dreams? Out of a lifetime of questions this may be the only one we may never be able to answer. We all have a set image of ourselves at any given point, that idea being the result of the things in life we find important and how they affect us at any given time. What is frightening is that the world cannot see the perception of ourselves until we describe it, but even then our ideas are combined with theirs to form a concept that may very well not match the definition we strive to become. With that being said, why do we strive to become all that we think the world wants us to be?

Imagine a life in which you meet only those who resemble yourself, you would never be exposed to anything different, you yourself would stay the same. We as a species run from the unfamiliar. Anything divergent from our daily activities sends us into a whirlwind of emotion, in an effort to handle the changes we feel, we run. And sometimes that becomes the only sensation we know. We crave power, yet we fear the feeling. We at any given moment have the choice to change every aspect of our lives. We can dye our hair a rainbow of colors, or we can leave a surrounding that we know isn't nurturing us. Either way we change. Whether physically or mentally, even the smallest of changes we allow set a path for a different life completely.

Unhappiness is a trap we often find ourselves lost in, but we have all the tools we need to break free. We have to learn to put fear aside and find the ability to change. We are given everything that we need within ourselves and that aspect of our faith becomes accessible when we find the courage that it takes to redirect our lives. On a new and unknown road you may stumble and you may fall, but you will be forced to find who you are. We are given trials and tribulation to awake the hero within ourselves. You just have to remember that you are worth saving. Maybe that's the hardest part of this whole journey; understanding that you are just as valuable as every one around you. We are all made of the same fabric.

Define yourself as someone worth loving. Learn to love and appreciate yourself for all that you are and know that there is so much more on this earth that you are to become. Take the first step and trust yourself. Intuition is given to us all, but most become deaf to its voice, doubting their own knowledge of what they're hearts are calling for. Take time to listen to God and yourself, and find the strength to grow into all that you are meant to be. Flowers can bloom in even the hardest of places. All they need to do is find the sun.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
