I'm all about making plans this holiday break, and by plans I actually mean getting a morning routine, doing some extra cleaning, and just reading a good book after a long semester of reading nothing but textbooks (unless you like "Frankenstein" or " Northanger Abbey" then my previous statement does not count).
However, if you just want something else a bit more cozy and just more relaxing and will more than likely take seven hours of your time, well, then Netflix is calling your name and a binge sesh is in your future!
Besides watching Supernatural, there are a few other shows I have been watching whether I spend my day cleaning or am lounging in my Miami Ink boxers. These are shows that are easy to get into and make you laugh, sometimes cry, or sometimes want to throw your Cheetos (and your hands) in surrender. Here a my few favorites:
1. The Office (NBC)
Granted it is on the nostalgic side of 2008, I just finished this series laughing at Michael Scott and The Office's tidbits.
I wasn't sure of this show at first but, as soon as I saw Dwight and Jim and their desk wars, I was in love. This show follows a paper company that has less pizazz than a cheese pizza. But the documentary style film makes for the audience to actually look for the comedy like in everyday situations instead of it being set up like in most sitcoms. These "normal" characters sure know how to make a paper company a consistent party. Thanks to Michael Scott...
2. Bojack the Horseman
This show is packed full of abnormality that everyone can relate to. Animals and humans interact with each other, so it's a riot. However, get ready for this show because it really gives you the feels.
The Netflix original show follows a washed up actor, Bojack Horseman, and with easy episodes the story unfolds as to why Bojack cannot maintain healthy relationships with people, why he goes to alcohol, and why he keeps losing people. His journey really hits home to everyone because on some level people use humor to try and diffuse an overwhelming situation, like in Bojack's case.
3. Gotham
This show introduced by FOX really premises Batman. And it IS about Batman. The show spans from the time Bruce Wayne's parents were shot when he was a child and goes through his childhood trying to figure out the secret to why his parents were murdered. The show also aims to find out why the villains, such as Penguin, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze came to be the way they were, and all were associated with Batman. Pretty much an awesome DC conspiracy...
4. Bates Motel
A&E introduced this show a few years back when I just finished high school. I watched the first season and literally went into a frenzy because when I moved to college, I didn't have a TV. So I was always checking online on what Norman and his mother were doing.
If you are already familiar with Alfred Hitchcock's "American Psycho", you already have a good idea of what is going in the show. The show follows Norman Bates and his literally mentally distraught mother, Norma. Norman is of high school age, and the setting is modern day, with hints of 1960's noir. The entire town of White Pine Bay, Oregon gives off a Gothic and rustic ambiance that pulls the audience into the thick woods of the Northwest.
There are so many secrets that bind the townspeople together, as well as the secretive and disturbing relationship between Norman and his "mother". Nothing is what it seems, and the secrets will appall you.. This show literally makes you feel like you are watching something illegal.
These shows I listed I love because I am a sucker for prequels and journies to how people came to be who they were. The hints of laughter, the sarcasm and the historical elements of these shows will make you order in from Dominos and disable your phone!
