Why It’s Better To Be An Early Bird Than A Night Owl

There are two types of people in this world, people who like getting up early and people who don't. Society it seems is firmly on the side of the latter camp. The invention of the electric light allows a whole new world of work and entertainment to blossom after dark, where people wear the badge of night owl with pride. The entire coffee shop racket has grown up to supply the energy to carry sleepy bodies through the day till the sun goes down. Meanwhile, people who actually enjoy getting up early are consigned to being farmers, elderly, or crazy. I think it's high time we changed this paradigm and that we gave this group the attention they deserve and admit their obvious superiority.

The first reason that being a morning person is better than a night person is that it is a far more peaceful existence. Nightlife is dominated by hustle and bustle of shifting crowds, flashes of light, and bursts of activity that make up any nocturnal world. The morning world is by contrast a much stiller and subdued place where everything is just starting to set itself in motion and the clamor of activity has yet to predominate. I have personally found few places as relaxing as any day at sunrise, when the world is born anew and life comes out of the fog of sleep.

For those who require less poetic reasons to justify waking up in the morning, consider that getting up earlier is better for your productivity. Getting up early allows you to tackle the day head on and meet its challenges with a fresh mind uncluttered by the day's events. Not to mention that when the clock says 7:00 when you wake it is much easier to form a plan for the day than when you wake up and the clock says 10:00. Much of the day is already underway at that point. There is also the fact that the lack of activity in the morning makes it an ideal time to work without distractions, something that the afternoon and evening are riddled with.

The final and in my view - the most important reason for getting up early is that it allows you to get things over with sooner. This is something I've discovered with running. The earlier I get started with it the sooner it gets done and the more time I have to do what ever I want. It is extremely satisfying to have the hardest part of the day out of the way early and to have rest of the day to relax.

Society has labored for long enough under the influence of the night owls and their way of living, and its time for a change. The advantages of the early birds are clear and numerous enough that it's high time we gave them the consideration they deserve.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
