Hey Wake writers! Guess what? The Writer's Camp application is LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's the link to the application: https://zsr.wfu.edu/events/zsr-writers-camp/

The only requirement is that you are a student at Wake Forest. The application is due November 13!

You can see the where's and when's on the application website, or you can keep reading for more information!

What's Writer's Camp?

Only the most underrated Wake writing event ever! Writer's Camp is a biannual event where you go to the library at 7 pm on a Friday with all of your friends who applied and write as long as you can/ want to throughout the night! Writer's Camp is officially over at 7 am on Saturday. When I did it my freshman year I was in the library the whole night and it was so much fun!

Maybe it's best explained by snap chat story from the very first Writer's Camp....

Phase one:

Phase two:

Phase two and a half

Phase three:

Phase four:

Phase five:

Phase six:

Phase seven:

Phase eight:

Phase nine:

Some of you might be thinking, "Donut sweatshirt?" and "Walruses?" All valid questions, but some answers are just better left in the library.

If my story didn't compel you to sign up for Writer's Camp and you're still reading this article instead of filling out the application, here are some more reasons why you should do Writer's Camp:

The Perks of Writer's Camp:

So if you're like me and you go to the library a lot, you'll notice the library is usually closed on Friday's, so during Writer's Camp, you get the library all to yourself and your friends who are doing Writer's Camp with you!

If you don't have any friends that like writing, you can meet a bunch of people who share your passion for writing. I did Writer's Camp my freshman year and I didn't know anyone doing it, but by morning I had four new friends who are still my friends today!

FREEEEEEE!!!!! Free coffee! Free Pizza! Free midnight snacks! Free breakfast in the morning! My freshman year we even got a free mug!

You get to work with Writing Center tutors to generate ideas or to help with writer's block. In the end, they act as your personal editors before you submit your final work.

You get to know Hu Womack better, our trusty research librarian who organizes all of this as well as other events. He is such a valuable resource to have on campus because he knows everything about research and citations. He is always around and eager to help students with anything really! Not to mention, he also has an awesome sense of humor!

And at the very end, you get published in a book that your family and friends can buy on Amazon! Yes, seeing your name and your work in print is as cool as you've imagined it to be. It's even cooler to think that people are paying to read what you wrote!

When is Writer's Camp?

It starts the night of Friday, February 9th, 2018 and it ends the next morning, Saturday, February 10th.

Some come out and join us in February for an awesome night in ZSR!!!!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
