We are humans. Our home is the Earth. We share this beautiful, vast, and lively planet with species alike and different. But, there is a pivotal difference between those species and ourselves: humans leave a detrimental footprint everywhere they go, and it's ruining our wondrous home.
You see, we take advantage of the fact that we are such an advanced and progressive species. We are so lucky to have acquired an immense development in intelligence throughout evolution. Our brains have the ability to make wonderful creations to benefit everything, living or not, and make Earth a gem amongst a solar system of stones.
Among deep, azure oceans swimming with life, lives a sea turtle who swallowed a plastic bag.
A vibrant red-breasted robin thought the cigarette you just tossed out of your brand new car's driver side window was a snack, and is now suffering.
When you celebrated on the beach on that beautiful, warm summer day, a fragile gecko crawled in your can and cut open his scaly back.
That grizzly bear gnawed on the plastic bottle you dropped on your hike in the local park. He choked on the plastic.
Humans have a lot of work to do improving the environment on our nice 'ole planet, but the one ignorant thing that too many of us do is litter. Our lack of responsibility with our waste is leading our planet to a slow, painful death that is easily stopped. While mindlessly tossing our trash, we are harming the beautiful, innocent creatures who share our home with us. Without the other life on Earth, ecosystem does not function properly and nature does not continue to grow, and we do not continue to eat. Essentially, our neglect for proper waste disposal will lead to the decline of our amazing human race. I believe we have worked too hard and created such a marvelous tale to tell throughout history to be able to, no pun intended, throw it all away. Our garbage is not only picked up by innocent animals, but lack of proper disposal allows landfills to build up with non-degradable objects, ruining the development of life.
When future generations are sitting in their grammar school social studies class, their teacher will sit back and teach them about the barbarians of the 21st century who waited until the filth they spread over the earth burdened their own lives to begin to take action against ignorance.
Our oceans will be dull, the skies grey, the grass dead, and the flowers nonexistent if we do not make responsible choices.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. Do not litter. Love your home and respect all the miraculous life that shares it with you. Take a stand against littering.
