Why You Should Vote On November 8

The countdown is almost done. Election Day is literally right around the corner. I only have one thing to say. One thing. Please go out and vote.

I don't care what your party is. I don't want to pander to certain audiences just because of my political party. I just want everyone to go out and vote. I know that in the past I've spoken out against Trump and it's clear that I tend to lean to the democratic side in most of my views. The problem is that despite having the right to vote, so many of us don't actually go out to the polls and vote.

This is information about voter statistics taken from data the census data. In the last presidential election only about 57 percent of registered voters actually voted, not to mention that over 20 million registered voters didn't actually vote at all. The data only seems to get worse as you read the breakdown of the voting data even further. The age group with the most voter turnout is 65 to 74 years of age. The reasons that people didn't go out to vote vary from busy schedules to bad weather on election day.

I don't want to seem condescending or pushy, but given the history of this country and how hard many people had to fight for the right to vote, we really should honor the hard work and go vote. I understand that there may be reasons that cause a person to be unable to go, being extremely sick, an unexpected emergency, something that really creates a problem with voting. The thing that makes me wonder are when people just don't feel like going out to vote. I get that this election, in particular, seems like a never-ending media circus. Every day something else comes out about one of the candidates. Even I am beginning to wonder when enough is enough, and considering the fact that I want to write about politics after college, it's pretty extreme. I understand that you might not like either of the candidates because they both have their faults, but thinking about not voting for anyone doesn't help either.

Not voting because of not liking any candidates, it's a little extreme. Think about the future that you want, or maybe you want for your future children and grandchildren. Not voting now is another way of saying that you don't care about the world that they will grow up in.

I really urge you to go out and vote on November 8th.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
