Let's face it, it is hard going to college and keeping your priorities straight. We always say, "God comes first," but do our actions really reflect that? We have so much homework and so many extra curricular activities and it's easy to get side tracked. Here are a few things that I found to be helpful in keeping my soul on fire for Jesus:

1. The Elevation Church App

This app is so worth having with you at all times. Pastor Steven Furtick sheds light on the things of this world that are usually swept away in a corner, but really need to be talked about. The Holy Ghost works so powerfully through him and when he begins to speak, my heart begins to fill up and my eyes begin to truly see what I need to do to be the person that I am called to be. You can have one of his sermons playing while going for a walk or cleaning your dorm

2. "Good Morning, Holy Spirit"

This book was written by Benny Hinn, a famous evangelist who has the gift of healing. I have found copies online for a price of as low as one cent, but the words inside are worth more than any price you could pay. It is the story of his personal encounter with the Holy Ghost. This book changed my view on who the Holy Spirit is. It taught me that He is as real as you and me. We NEED to have that relationship with Him to make it through each and every day. This novel will encourage you to seek the Holy Ghost like seeking for your cell when you have misplaced it.

3. A Prayer Journal

I don't know about you but it's hard for me to stay focused when I pray. I have found it helpful to write down my prayers as well as thinking them. You can even go as far as organizing your prayers so you can have your battle plan laid out in front of you, because we all know that each day is a fight against the enemy, and our most strategic weapon is prayer. This journal will keep you from forgetting things that you promised you would pray for, it's a way to hold yourself accountable.

4. Worship Time

I don't care where you go to do this but you need to have your own space, it can be your car, your closet, your bathroom even, but you have got to have a place where you can lay your heart before God without any distractions. Find songs that truly resonate with your soul and have them playing while you give thanks to God. Some of the ones that I have found to be my favorites are, "Freedom Reigns" by Jeremiah Yocom, "Something About the Name, Jesus" by Kirk Franklin, and "Show Me Your Ways" by Hillsong.

5. She Reads Truth

This website provides a way for you to really dig into scripture with a connection through a devotion. Most devotions will give you one verse with a break down of how it relates to life, but these ladies give you hunks of scriptures to read and you really get more out of their devotion because of it. It's great because they stay on one topic for weeks at a time so you get to really learn about and read books of The Bible all the way through. I like to read an excerpt each night before I go to sleep.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
