Denial
Expectation: “I’m still in high school, I was just on vacation. Nothing has changed since I left, it will be great when I go back!”
Reality: You don’t recognize any faces, there are 30 new teachers, new traditions, and they have cooler assemblies – of course, that happened the year after you left.
Anger
"Why was I successful in high school?? Why did I have to graduate?? Gee whiz, please just fail a class!"
Bargaining
“Please, just one more year of high school (without the homework and tests because I already got into college)!! I promise I'll go to more games, I'll do all the extra credit and I promise I won't skip any classes or procrastinate!!"
Depression
“Life will never be the same, everything has changed. I have
to grow up, declare a major, find real jobs, worry about money, get to class on
time without my parents help and make my own decisions...this is the end. This is what my life has come to."
