Wanderlust' has to be one of my favorite words. The meaning of wanderlust is a strong desire to travel, and I am always down for an adventure. Whether it is visiting a park near home or hopping on a plane to explore another place, my mind tends to always be thinking about new places I can travel to. Traveling has opened my eyes to the diversity and different lifestyles around the world. The people, 'memories and places you visit really do last a lifetime. It has been a week since my latest trip, and I already miss the experiences I was able to be a part of.
Washington, D.C., should definitely be on your bucket list, especially if you love history just as much as I do. D.C. is one of those places where you could go for a small weekend trip and get the most out of your stay. Here are some of my favorite sites I visited while in the District of Columbia.
The White House
Of course this has to be a top place to visit if you are in Washington, D.C. One of the things I found interesting was that there were Secret Service men a few feet away from me! Oh, by the way, make sure to see the White House from the back and the front sides.
The Washington Monument
This monument is located in the National Mall and was build to commemorate George Washington, the first American President.
U.S. Capitol Building
It's crazy to think that this building houses the meeting chambers for the Senate and the House of Representatives and has been doing so for almost two centuries. (P.S. it's under construction, which is why the top part of it has the metal around it.)
The Lincoln Memorial
You would be surprised at how massive the size of this statue is. Pictures do not do it justice. "Whatever you are, be a good one." Wise words of our 16th President.
World War II Memorial
This area was very big and beautiful. It is a great tribute to the men and women who lost their lives fighting in the WWII battle. This memorial is very moving.
The U.S. Holocaust Museum
This museum by far had the most impact while I was in D.C. This museum leaves you absolutely speechless and your heart heavy. My classmates and I were lucky enough to meet and hear the story of a Holocaust survivor. It is one of those once in a lifetime experiences I will be fortunate enough to share with my family and friends.
