Living with anxiety can be tough enough. Living with anxiety in college on top of stress from exams, classes, picking your major, finding your friend group, and other clubs/organizations is tougher. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 40 million adults ranging from 18-50 years old suffer from anxiety. Anxiety is “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome” (Merriam-Webster). College students are prone to anxiety. If you are a college student and don’t already suffer from anxiety, I personally want to know how you manage your life.
Anxiety is often gone under the radar especially with college students because most people—including college students—pass it off as overwhelming stress. I want to personally let anyone suffering with anxiety that they are not alone. 75 percent of college students reported that they suffer an anxiety attack before they turn 22. Some are diagnosed as a medical disorder; however, some are not. Some just continue to fly under the radar until it turns severe. I, as a freshman in college, can admit that I have anxiety from time to time and it can turn worse as the day goes on. I put together some quotes to help anyone who is suffering from anxiety, depressed, or thoughts of suicide
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
“Remember, laughter is 10 times more powerful than screams.” – Mike Wazowski from “Monster’s Inc.”
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
“The only thing that could spoil a day was people. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.” - Ernest Hemingway
“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from
“You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.” – Alice Kingsley in “Alice in Wonderland”
“A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.” – Zeus from “Hercules”
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
These are some quotes I would want someone telling me whenever I feel down, anxious, or depressed. Just always remember: anxiety can be invisible and the person sitting next to you in class could be suffering severely from it. Always remember to not only treat everyone with kindness but to treat yourself with kindness. You are your own person. Be who you are. Don’t let life get in the way of who you want to be. If you aspire to be an artist, then you chase after your dreams. If you aspire to be a heart surgeon, you study your ass off and make sure I personally don’t die of a heart attack.
