IT IS HERE. The waiting is over. Drake finally dropped his newest album, ‘Views,’ and it’s a banger.
If you know me, you know I am slightly obsessed with Drake. Okay, extremely obsessed and completely in love with. How could you not be? The Grammy winner has single-handedly changed the game of hip-hop. He is the most popular rapper in the music industry right now. He even created his very own record label, OVO (October’s Very Own) Sound. Not only is he an amazing singer, rapper, and music producer, he also has a background in acting. Remember the TV show "Degrassi?" Yeah, Drake starred in the show in the early 2000s as Jimmy. But despite the man’s many talents, how could you not swoon over that face?
Drake has been hard and work with his new album ‘Views’ for awhile now, and like always, he did not disappoint. He has been teasing fans about the new album for months. The self-proclaimed "6 God" released "Summer Sixteen," a promotional single for the new album, earlier this year and people went insane. The track was an instant chart topper.
For those of you who do not know what ‘The 6’ is, let me enlighten you — "The 6" is another name, given by Drake, for Toronto, Canada. The city is called "The 6" because 6 is the beginning number of one of the Toronto area codes (647) and is included in the other (416). Toronto is where he was born and raised. Drake’s hometown is extremely important to him, and he makes that very clear not only in his "Views" album, but also in his multiple songs of the past.
On April 9th, Drake released a preview for the album on Instagram and Twitter. The short video made it obvious that "Views" is going to unlikely anything he has created before. The album shows a different side of Drake that fans have never seen or heard before. The album features other famous hip-hop artists including Future, The Throne (Jay Z and Kayne West), Rihanna, and more.
Drake’s most personal track from the album is "Views." He displays his entire life in the song, from dropping out of school to now hanging out with Kobe “doing shots the night before the game.” The album's lyrics give a background of who Drake is, where he came from, and how he got to the point he is at now. Fans get a better understanding of Drake as a musical artist and also as a person after listening to his new album. I was in love with it before I even heard the first song, and I can’t wait to hear what other great things this hip-hop genius comes up with in the future.
