"The Vampire Diaries" is a show that has been taking over people's television screens on Thursday and Friday evenings since the first episode aired in September 2009. It is also a show that will be gracing those same television screens, for those fans who stuck with the show, for the final time starting this fall.
FOR THE FINAL TIME GUYS!
For any true "Vampire Diaries" fan, many know what sad news this is.
During this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, California, the cast and crew of the show confirmed the final season rumors with this video, which was enough to bring anyone to tears.
In this video, many of the main characters of the show and some of the crew talk about what a journey the show took them on during the past eight years. They also talk about how their lives were forever altered by what they have done and the people they met along the way, with voices catching and glassy eyes as their emotions run deep. They end the video by thanking all of the fans who made these past eight years possible for them because without the fans, where would they truly be?
I thought that the ending of season five was an emotional one, especially when one of the biggest main characters of the show, Elena Gilbert—played by Nina Dobrev—was taken off of the show. Many thought that the show was over right then and there, but they continued for another season and the true TVD diehards continued to watch the drama unfold, wondering how the show would stand out with such a significant character out of the picture. They actually did a wonderful job of it.
But many of us are hoping for the return of Nina Dobrev at least some point during the final season, since she said she would return for the finale of the show. In fact, we hope to see much of the original cast during this final season—a reunion of sorts. To bring it back full cycle would be like icing on the top of a cake. So bring back Elena Gilbert (for an entire episode, not just a scene!), Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) and Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) since he was only briefly seen in the previous season. Bring the entire cast back for one last hurrah, and all of us watching at home will be sure to have some tissues handy.
I still think I'm in denial that this is ending...
The worst part is... they're only giving us 16 episodes this season instead of the normal 22! Seriously?!
While many of us are extremely sad to see this show end, we are still happy to have it end on it's own terms. As Julie Plec put it, “it's so rare for a show to get to last this long, and what a privilege that Mark Pedowitz and Peter Roth allowed us to choose the time to end the journey on our own creative terms...It’s been eight of the best years of my life. I will miss it terribly, but I’m so proud to be here to see it to its proper end.”
Hopefully it is an ending we can all be satisfied with.
So get ready TVD fans because the first episode of the final season airs October 21st!
