Over the weekend, some friends and I got together and were struggling to agree on which show to watch together; two of us were already into the new season of Grey's Anatomy, while my other friend had never seen any of it. So, us being compassionate human beings and Grey's fanatics, agreed to watch it from the beginning, yes, season 1 episode 1, the beginnings of beginnings! Soon after hitting play, all of us were cozied up on my giant bean bag eating Reese's Pieces. It was a beautiful and memorable moment of friendship and nostalgia. So this weekend, get together with your best gal pals and rewatch Grey's, if not for the friendship, then for the incredibly valid and totally legitimate reasons listed below...
1. Um, remember that time Meredith hooked up with some guy from a bar and it ended up being the brain surgeon at the same hospital where her internship started the next day??? YEAH.
2. Christina Yang!!!!!!!!
The cardio-thourassic surgeon that takes shit from no one, Christina Yang was inarguably the sass queen that we all wish we could channel sometimes (or is that just me). They were the best friends that went through HELL and back together (See: plane crash, giving birth in a storm, 2 broken marriages, a husband death, attempted suicide, and a mass shooting). Although, most best friends will never go through tribulations like these together, Christina Yang embodied the ultimate best friend character that will never leave your side and we loved her for her loyalty, girl-boss attitude, humor, and brokenness. Watching the first episode back again, Christina was a recent medical school graduate hungry for surgery experience and furthering her career, ready to beat anyone to get in her path. But by the end of her time with Grey's she was Meredith's "person", Owen's ex-wife, and the head of cardio-thourassics. Is it too late to start a petition to #BringChristinaYangBack2017?
3. George *heart eye emojii*
George was that little brother-type character in Grey's that we all loved, cherished and "aww"'d at and his innocence and clumsiness were the cherries on top to how much we loved him. Watching the iconic scene when he performed open heart surgery on a broken elevator with him coming out as triumphant will 10/10 give you an overwhelming feeling of joy in your heart. George is reason enough to stop studying right now and re-watch the whole series over again; "Team Double O' Seven" for life!
4. Meredith's mom
Let's all take a moment of silence to appreciate how relatable this gif is in this time in our lives. Although, Ellis Gray was not the warm, touchy and loving mom that most TV shows depict, she inarguably still added a certain dimension to the show. She helped us see where Meredith came from and why she was the way she was and that was a very important aspect in the show. The fact that she wasn't an overly warm mother almost made her character that much more important to show that not everyone has the artificial-seeming-hyper-loving mother depicted in most TV, and that is OKAY!
