The month of January is almost over and the stores have been stocking the shelves for Valentine's Day for weeks. Valentine's Day is always a big deal every year. All the girls dream of their boyfriends, or maybe even just their crush, to buy them flowers, chocolates and/or cute stuffed animals. I mean, yeah, all of that stuff is nice, but why do we ask for so much for that one day?
When Valentine's Day was first discovered, it was an annual feast celebration. Over time, though, it turned into the romance-filled day we celebrate today.
Now I'm not just a Valentine's Day hater. I don't hate the day, but I don't see the big deal with it. I've experienced the day in a relationship and while single. To me, we shouldn't think that there is one specific day devoted to showing your love. Appreciate your spouse every day of every year.
I just don't see the point in the holiday, honestly. I don't expect a boy to spend lots of money on me because he feels like he has to for the sake of Valentine's Day. If he wants to buy me flowers or candy, he can do that on any day of the year that he chooses, but I don't want presents just because society says that's what should be happening. Celebrate your love on a random Wednesday night date, on your anniversary or just because you felt happy that day. Do whatever makes you happy honestly.
Like I said, I don't just all out hate the day.
I respect that some people enjoy celebrating it and I know that not everyone looks at it the way I do. However, to me, it's just overrated. A boy doesn't have to shower me with presents and candy unless he wants.
Celebrate Valentine's Day however you want. If you want to buy yourself candy, do it. If you want to buy your spouse presents, do it. If you don't like the holiday, treat it like any other day. Valentine's Day is just another day of the year, after all.
