One of the worst holidays for any single gal is Valentine’s Day. It’s basically another day to remind ourselves of our perpetual singledom…which honestly sucks. Even though "Parks and Rec" told its viewers it was okay to be a single by introducing the world to Galentine’s day, some of our friends most likely do in fact have a Valentine, so you’re stuck alone at home debating where to order pizza from and which movie to watch. To all of my fellow single ladies who are bracing themselves to cry through another Nicholas Sparks movie, I want to challenge you. Instead of feeling crappy about yourself whilst watching a forbidden love story come to life, here are 10 movies you should watch instead that will make you forget you don’t have anyone to share this terrible day with:
1. "The Human Centipede" (2009)
"The Human Centipede" is a super fun flick about an insane surgeon who kidnaps people and connects them together through their anuses. This was the first flick I saw on Valentine's when I decided I would no longer feel sorry for myself for being single.
2. "My Bloody Valentine" (1981)
A Valentine's party getting crashed by a maniac? A perfect flick for any single person!!!
3. "Carrie" (1977 or 2013)
Carrie is the girl all of us related to at some point or another: people thought we were social pariahs and/or we had the weirdest moms. Either way there is no romance in it so this is a pretty sure fire way of forgetting about love.
4. "The First Wives Club" (1996)
We should probably take a break from creepy, slasher movies and go into some more "fluff". Basically these three angsty middle aged women are salty because their husbands all left them for younger women. So instead of getting mad, they get even.
5. "Beaches" (1988)
If you are in fact looking for a good movie to cry about but don't want to cry about being single, this movie is for you. It's long af but it's about best friends and who doesn't love a good flick about best friends?
6. "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" (1997)
If you want a best friends movie without sobbing, then this movie is perfect. It may make you laugh until you cry and make you want to go to your own high school reunion with your best friend. Also shoutout trying to find the guy who invented Post-Its.
7. "Obsessed" (2009)
First of all, Beyoncé is in this which is basically reason enough to stop everything you're doing and watch it. Second of all, it's about a crazy women stalking a married man. Now, we have ALL been a little crazy about someone who we could never get, but this chick takes it to a whole new level.
8. "Gone Girl" (2014)
This movie will actually force you to pay attention throughout the whole thing, so it will be very easy to forget you are single. Also the wife is actually insane, so it will make you feel better about yourself whilst watching.
9. "Revolutionary Road" (2007)
Ahh, another flick about a terrible marriage. When Leo and Kate (finally) get married in a flick, it all goes awry. Once watching, you will feel relief that you are still single and not in a loveless marriage.
10. "Spring Breakers" (2012)
Four college girls will do whatever it takes to go on spring break, and while there meet a rapper played by James Franco. 'nuff said.
***BONUS***
11. "Jack and Jill" (2011)
Actually this is a lie. I don't even recommend this movie to the happiest of couples.
