Valentine's Day For Singles

Valentine's Day can be rough for single people, but it doesn't have to be! Here are some things you can do.

It's that time of year! Valentines Day. It's a time where lovers show their beautiful devotion to one another with the help of symbolic gifts like chocolate or flowers. It's also the time where overly dramatic single people bitch about their hopeless love lives to one another. How special! Damn, people just love to get depressed over this holiday even if they set unrealistic expectations for themselves. Wow now I'm just being an asshole. Allow me to move on.

Despite the depression of so many single people this time of the year, this holiday actually has so much too offer. There are many things single people can do during this time of year to have fun! Here's a list of a few awesome things that you can do!

1) Have a Thanksgiving style feast with your friends.

There's nothing like a home cooked feast. Having one with a bunch of close friends can really make Valentines Day feel like an awesome holiday, even if you can't necessarily celebrate it the way you want. And if you're bad at cooking, you can always go out to a restaurant or any kind of big group date.

2) Go into you local Wal-Mart and find a big ass stuffed animal. Get a friend to take a picture of you hugging the enormous stuffed animal. Put it on Instagram and wittingly caption the picture, "Me with my boyfriend/girlfriend!" and rake in the likes from your basic Instagram followers.

Everyone loves a classic witty Instagram post! You love social media attention as well. So why not go into a store and playfully post the exact picture I just described. It'll be oodles of fun!

3) Get free wings at Hooters.

The semi-degrading restaurant Hooters is doing a wonderful promotion this February 14th. All you have to do is bring in a picture of your ex and have them shred it, then you get 10 free wings. This is spectacular! However, you do need to buy 10 wings first, so I guess they're really only half off. Sorry, I guess we can't get everything we want.

4) February 15th, DISCOUNTED VALENTINES DAY CANDY AT STORES.

February 15th is low key the sickest day of the year! In most stores, you can buy all kinds of Valentines Day candy, which is just normal candy decorated differently, for a discounted price! You can also really score some crazy bulk deals this way. I once purchased a 24 pack of fun dip intended for elementary aged kids to give to their classmates. Guess how much it costed me? Only two dollars! What a world.

5) Turn up.

Valentines Day is the perfect excuse to get drunk on a weeknight. So grab a couple of friends and do what you do best; get wasted! Many bars and restaurants probably have drink deals on this special day anyway. And if you don't feel like going out, you can always party at home. See, Valentines Day is more than a reason to be sad. It's a wonderful holiday that everyone can enjoy if they try!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
