Ahhhh Valentine's Day, the day where everyone expresses massive amounts of love to their significant others. You get cards, chocolates, flowers and gifts upon gifts. It seems like a lavish holiday, and I've always admired it.
I love everything about Valentine's Day, how everything is pink, and there are so many candies, and hearts, yet I've never really had a Valentine. I'm a 17-year-old girl, and this was my first year having a valentine. Of course, I'm still young and it's not expected to have many Valentine's at this age, but still.
My first introduction to this holiday was in preschool. My best friend, Jack, who had a crush on me, surprised me at my house with chocolates, flowers, a bear, a card and a framed picture of himself. I was astonished, I thought that every Valentine's Day would be like this. Little did I know, it wasn't.
Normally I'm surrounded by my friends having boyfriends and planning cute gifts for them. I was always envious of them. It was my dream to hand make lovey gifts and give them to my lover. Every year I go out with friends and we share fun gifts, and it's still very enjoyable. But then, finally, this year, my dream came true of having an actual valentine.
I've only been dating my current boyfriend for around three months. He is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. He treats me like a queen, and he constantly showers me with love and affection. I wouldn't want to share my first Valentine's Day with anyone else.
I woke up to a long message about how much he loves me and so on, and it was so sweet. The whole rest of the day I couldn't stop smiling and thinking about him, I felt like I was jumping on clouds. I got to give him my homemade cute gifts, and he gave me his, and we're both so happy about them.
Based on this year, I love Valentine's Day even more. Although it's not all about significant others, it also can be about friends and family. I normally spend it with friends, and it reminds me of how much my friends mean to me. But, having a boyfriend was a really exciting experience for me.
My advice to everyone is to appreciate whoever you have in your life on Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is about reminding the people you love, how much you love them. And whether or not you have a boyfriend/girlfriend, you can still have a good time. Just remember, love is love whoever it is.
