UWG is a great school but needs a parking deck

University of West Georgia is growing bigger and bigger each year. One of the biggest complaints of students is how bad parking is and it is only getting worse. Space for student parking is getting fewer and fewer causing it to be farther from classes. There are three main parking lots at the bookstore near most classes but sometimes its even hard to park in those spots. Why are students having to worry about parking at a school they pay money to go to? And why are we getting tickets because we have to make parking spaces due to the school's parking problem?

Four years ago freshman got to park with everyone at the school. Since then they are having to park a few miles away at the football field. It is a huge inconvenience for them and they are having to wait at the bus stops at night which is scary and unsafe. Personally, I once had to wait alone twenty minutes at a bus stop late at night when a couple female college students seen I felt unsafe and gave me a ride to my car. Freshman pay for parking in their tution fees and they do not get what they deserve.

Now our parallel parking spots have been taken away from students. This is because the University has decided to Go Green and that is awesome! Yet, if the University decides to replace the parallel parking with our bike routes we should have more parking on campus. We have also lost certain smaller parking lots to some faculty. It causes students to run late to class for the uncertainty of having a parking spot or not. If we do not run late to class we are having to make a parking spot at the bookstore. The bookstore is our biggest area to park and is a happy medium near most classes yet still not big enough for the sophomore, junior, and senior commuters at West Georgia that park there. Students get punished for the University's parking problem with parking tickets which are ridiculously expensive.

What the University should do to stop our problem is put a parking deck at the campus. This way students get to class on time, be able to park where they are supposed to, and actually get what they paid for when coming to the university. It will ensure safety for the students if there is enough room for the freshman to park down at the university. The campus would just be a better place.
