UW Kribs: Kappa Kappa Gamma

Almost anyone who has lived in their sorority house can tell

you it was/is the best year of college. Why is this? After living in for a month or so, I can tell you that living in the Kappa Kappa Gamma house is one of the best decisions I made. Take it from me and from my 55 housemates…

1. What’s the best thing about living in the house this year?

“For sure the amount of closets—55 girls and 55 closets. You’ll never have more options for what to wear out.”

“Sunday brunch—that’s all that needs to be said.”

“Game days! There’s nothing more fun than blasting the music at 7 AM and running around getting ready together.”

“Karen- best house mom around. She’s the MVP.”

“Brushing my teeth with the homies!”

2. What’s the best part about the chefs in your house?

“We get breakfast… daily. Mary, the omelet chef, can’t be beat. She customizes your orders and brings it out to you- perfect for when you’re running late and trying to finish last night’s homework. ”

“Let me tell ya about the Mac & Cheese. Holy man, it is the best thing in the entire world.”

“BLT bar and burger bars. It’s all about the meat.”

3. What’s the biggest struggle of living in the house?

“Crawling up the stairs… or falling down them!”

“The kitchen… so much food, all the time.”

“We currently have no furniture. So sitting on the ground…”

4. Kappa’s Current Live-ins in 5 Words or Less:

“Who wants to get food?”

“Chubby pledge class- ‘nuff said”

“What happened last night?”

“#Kappademics”

5. What do you do when your Internet fails in the middle of the night and you can’t watch Netflix/finish your paper (daily occurrence)?

“Lay on the ground in the lemon room and think about what it will look like once we have furniture”

“That’s when we turn to toppers. They ‘love their Kappa customers’, seriously.”

“Sisterly bonding, duh!”

“I mean we like to cuddle, so I guess we do that sometimes… Sisterly?”

6. Best memory of living in so far?

“Ordering 100 pizzas from PDR during rush and downing them like animals! “

“The story of the night Megan Britt slept outside… HAHAHA!”

“I can’t think of a specific memory yet, but living in is serious the best experience of college I’ve had so far.”

7. What would you tell the next PC about living in Kappa?

“Get your homework done early, so you can go out later! We really do care about our grades!”

“Make sure you don’t pull down your blinds from your window—the people in Waterfront can see right into your room.”

“Gotta keep up with your workout regiment or you’ll definitely have issues with how good Deana’s food is.”

“You will love it, but stay focused on school, it’s hard but everyone puts in their work at different times and there really is always people staying in so you can talk about your FOMO together.”

8. If “Living with Kappa” became a reality TV show, what would it most likely be like?

“Keeping up with the Kardashians… almost spot on!”

“Naked and Afraid. LOL.. KIDDING!”

“Gilmore Girls! We are classy and fearless, independent women!”

Being a Kappa and living in the house is more than getting ready together and trying to remember what happened the night before. It’s about forming the relationships that you will have for the rest of your lives and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
