Your UVA Spring Checklist

We all love the time of year when the weather begins to warm up once again. College students emerge from their bundled-up, miserable winter hibernation, and the moods suddenly skyrocket. There is a carefree aura of happiness that circulates around grounds as everyone rejoices in the fact that it is finally springtime.

Before you pack up your loads of belongings and head home after finals, make sure to check these 15 "spring-y" activities off your list.

1. Have a picnic on the Lawn.

Grab a blanket, pack some food, and bring your friends to relax on a sunny afternoon after classes.

2. Eat dumplings in the Amphitheater.

Don't you just love that time of year when everyone crowds in the Amphitheater to eat lunch and bask in the sun? The struggle is trying not to fall asleep before heading to your next class.

3. Take a Sunday drive out to Crozet.

It's always good to get out of Charlottesville for a little while and experience the beauty of Virginia in the spring.

4. Go to Foxfield.

Floppy hats, sundresses and bow ties, tailgates, and horse races. Honestly, can you get more "spring" than that?

5. Visit the Charlottesville Farmers Market.

Starting in April, head downtown on Saturdays to check out the produce, crafts, sweets, and more from vendors in the area.

6. Explore the Downtown Mall.

Spring is the perfect time to stroll down the Downtown Mall strip, get some gelato from Splendora's, and explore the unique shops and art galleries.

7. Go wine tasting at vineyards.

There are endless, gorgeous vineyards around Charlottesville to check out, so grab some friends and go to that vineyard you have been dying to visit!

8. Visit the puppy farm in Broadway.

Did you say puppies? Golden retriever puppies? Sign me up!

Disclaimer: You will not be able to take them all home with you afterwards.

9. Hike Humpback Mountain.

No more freezing your butt off on sunrise hikes. Besides fall, spring is a beautiful time to go hiking around Skyline Drive.

10. Go to Carter Mountain.

Although peaches are not in season until June, it is still fun to go up to Carter Mountain, visit the store, and enjoy the breathtaking view of Charlottesville once it opens again in April.

11. Go on a long jog or walk.

There are so many wonderful, hidden paths outside of UVA. It feels great to get off grounds and enjoy a leisure run on a warm day.

12. Streak the Lawn.

Tip: As someone who may or may not have experience, springtime during final exams is the best time to streak the Lawn. It's warm, and not a person is in sight. Shhhhh ...

13. Eat outdoors at restaurants on the Corner.

It's the moment we've all been waiting for: the time of year when we can finally utilize the amazing outdoor seating at restaurants like The Virginian, Boylan Heights, and Crozet Pizza.

14. Play a sport for fun in MadBowl, Nameless, or Lambeth Field.

You've been trapped indoors at the gym all winter — time to grab a soccer ball or volleyball and sweat outdoors!

15. Do a spring photo shoot with friends.

Although It may seem girly, springtime photo shoots are entirely too much fun. You will finally have actual pictures with your friends to frame and remember for years to come.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
