It's so bad you almost can't help to look away. It appears in your life daily and sometimes distracts you from reality for minutes upon hours. I am talking about the endless, terrible soap opera called Facebook.
It seems today that when browsing through your Facebook newsfeed, the only things you will find are people sharing their political opinions, one-sided arguments and the least dreaded of all, fake news. From time to time you can find much needed relief in those people who do not care to express their beliefs on a social media application and just want to brighten their follower's day by bombarding people with cute animal videos. Thank you to those few people.
What is even worse than those people who base their opinions off of highly false Facebook posts and comments are the people who sit back and complain about the people who feel the need to share their opinions on Facebook. Do not get me wrong, you might agree that is exactly what I am doing right now but let me explain why.
Those who get offended by sitting and watching people share their beliefs on Facebook are also those who cannot look away. I admit, I have on occasion fallen victim to this. However, there is a big difference between those who can look and ignore and those who can look and comment.
Facebook was a tool meant to connect with those you love and know. From the time I started high school when I created my Facebook until the Facebook I use today, I have noticed a drastic change in the way people interact on the site. The point I am trying to get at is, if you have a problem with what people are saying on Facebook, ignore and move on with your daily life. If that is not enough, simply remove them peacefully or at worse delete your Facebook entirely. It frustrates me that people will take things they see on Facebook so negatively and sit back and remain offended.
Although this application was made with the sole intention to bring people closer together and connect, I feel as though today it is doing quite indeed the opposite. The typical, "If you do not agree with me, then just delete me as a friend" post is seen all too often.
As I sit back and watch this happen and transform people on Facebook, I can not help but question, when did this website change from sharing fun pictures with your family and friends into: if you do not agree with said political belief, I do not want to be your friend?
Luckily, we live in a highly technologically advanced world that allows us to remove ourselves quite easily from unwanted opinions with the simple click of a button. After all, what is the point in getting upset about an unaccredited news site or a factually unsupported opinion when it's purpose is so useless?
