Due to a brutal schedule and several narrow losses, the Texas Longhorns barely snuck into the field of 64.
The very talented and underachieving Longhorns fell to an 11 seed and play the 6 seed Butler Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon. Butler somehow finished 2nd in the Big East with a conference record of 12-6. However, after further inspection, Butler did not have many wins over the top tier of the conference. A win at home against Xavier is their best conference win and their best non-conference win being against North Carolina. However, the win against North Carolina came very early in the year (November 26) before Roy Williams got them in gear.
When Butler played big, athletic teams such as Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Indiana, they lost. Throughout the course of the season, Butler has proved countless times they cannot beat more athletic teams. Unfortunately for Butler, they will run into a very talented and athletic Texas team that has played good basketball the past 2 weeks. Texas is top-10 in rebounding and leads the NCAA with 7.9 blocks per game. Butler has not been able to beat a team like Texas all year and there is no reason why they should now.
Texas upsets Butler in the first round.
