We have no other friends
Sororities are often thought of as an exclusive group of girls who live and breathe for each other. While part of that is true, we do have other friends. In fact some of the people I consider my closest friends aren’t involved in Greek life at all. Just because your sisters are your friends, doesn’t mean all your friends are your sisters
Partying with boys is our number one priority
Yes, the social part of sororities is important. But no, that doesn’t mean we spend every night meeting boys or partying with fraternities. The point of a sorority is sisterhood and we think about more important things than getting drunk and hooking up.
We have to be rich
No, daddy doesn’t always pay for everything. Sorority girls aren’t made of money just looking for an excuse to buy monogrammed hats. There are monthly dues for each sorority that many girls work to pay for themselves.
We are perfect skinny blondes
I admit, I used to think that’s who you had to be to join a sorority. But I’m a five foot tall redhead who’s never been a size two in my life, and my sorority has never made me feel like I need to be anything else.
Grades don't matter
Actually they matter a lot. Like at universities, most sororities have a required grade point average each sister has to meet in order to be considered on good standing. You’re at school to learn first, and socialize second.
We've always been the popular girls
One of the great things about sororities is that they’re a mix of all different types of women. I was the furthest thing from your typical sorority girl in high school and at heart, I’m still just an awkward chorus kid.
We think we're better than everyone
No, I don’t wear my letters on my sweatshirt because I feel superior. I wear them because I am proud of the sisterhood I am a part of and the woman I’ve become. My letters don’t make me better than you, they make me better than I used to be.
