The Unpredicatble Weather In Nebraska

For only living in Nebraska for a little more than a year now, I have already experienced the amazing and unreliable personality that the weather serves out here in the midwest. One day it will be 31 degrees Ferheinheint with a windchill of -8, and the next day is 72 degrees Ferheinheint with not a cloud in the sky. Let's just say my laundry may consist of cleaning my snow jacket and jeans, as well as my short shorts and t-shirts all in the same week.

Being from California and living in the Bay Area, the lowest it gets in the winter is maybe 32 degrees Ferheinheint. There is definitely a little frost on the ground but not a flurry in sight! The week's weather will usually stay consistent for two and a half weeks; maybe a few rainy days here and there. It will stay a beautiful 80-100 degrees Fereinheint for the whole summer with an occasional summer rain here and there, but nothing compared to good old Nebraska.

As I sit here in the dry yellow grass at Hastings College, soaking up the sun and watching the squirrels come out of hiding and chase each other around, I realize that no it's not spring yet, in fact, it's February still! This time last year the city of Hastings was recovering from a great snow storm that kept us college students in our dorms for three days, and boy did germs start spreading because almost everyone got sick. This past week the weather has been remarkably beautiful! And when it has been 20 degrees Ferheinheint below since November, snowing plus an ice storm in January, beautiful to Nebraskans is a partly cloudy sky and in the 50s!

So how long is this actually going to stay? I mean it's Nebraska anything can happen and like I said, it's still February!! So I pull out my phone and look at the weather app and low and behold! It will be at the highs of 70's until Thursday the 23rd, and Friday the 24th, it's supposed to snow! How is this even possible? I knew it wouldn't last.

So as the sun shines down on my pale skin, as the leaves dance around my feet, and the wind softly blows my hair, all I can say is, thank you Nebraska. Thank you for at least giving me a week and a half of what spring will soon feel like. Weather, you are so unpredictable here, it's like playing a guessing game each day I wake up!

So though you might be going on a walk and climbing trees one day, then the next creating snow angels due to a foot of snow appearing overnight, the weather here in Nebraska is truly a surprise each day that makes this state even more unique and fun.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
