I did not come to The University of Alabama with the same ideals as many people who plan to come to the university. When I graduated from high school, I had no idea that I would be attending the University of Alabama, and I did not know that I would be pledging a fraternity.
I started out with dreams of attending The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and that was the only school that I wanted to go to, because I was going to pursue a degree in Biology and hopefully go to medical school. However, my mother had a different plan for me. She was in a sorority during college, and obviously wanted her son to pledge a fraternity. So, she enrolled me here at the Capstone, with the intention of me having the same experience she had.
Oh, how I will never actually admit to her just how correct she was. Coming to the University of Alabama was the best decision I have ever made, and going greek was the second best decision I have ever made, because they have completely influenced everything I say and do. I would not be the person I am without the support of my brothers and the guidance I have received from professors here at UA. Being in a fraternity has taught me how to work together as a team and only strive for the best in life. As a student, I have been challenged and tested (many times) to grow as a person and as a scholar.
I am going to look back on this in a few years and remember all of the amazing experiences I have had, the people I have met, and I am never going to forget just how correct my mom was when she told me I needed to attend school here. So if you are from out of state, instate, or just on the fence about college in general, just give it some time; because you truly are at one of the best schools in the country, and I would not change a single thing about this University.
