Recently I have constantly heard people talk about how others are being discriminated for this and that. Everyone has heard the concept black lives matters or all lives matters. But honestly, why? Everything that has been occurring in the past couple of months and years regarding "discrimination" most of the time isn’t discrimination. Not all the crime and hate can be considered a hate crime. Yes, is there a chance some type of wrongdoing has been done in the past, yes of course. In addition, of course some of these crimes are hate crimes and are discriminating others. However, do not get the facts that we know twisted with the gossip that others spread. Today it seems like everyone who has a social media account knows the truth and what really happens. Honestly, the only people who really know what had or had not happened are the individuals involved within these crimes. Not the public nor the media; the media has a way of twisting the facts just for ratings or having something to talk about, causing good people to be treated poorly.
Again, I am not saying that some things that have happened are not because of discrimination. Maybe it is discrimination, but it is not the job of the public to decide if it is or isn’t. We have the justice system in place to determine that for those involved in these crimes. Of course we are all entitled to our own thoughts and opinions. Here is the problem we have today – we just assume things. A person will hear on the news that this thing happened, and all of a sudden everyone knows what has happened. But we can't just assume a person's motive behind a crime. It seems that when a horrific attack against us, such as the shooting in Orlando, we cannot seem to find a motive or why such an awful thing happened. Yet, when it involves a police officer and an African American then it is discrimination? We as Americans have to stop this trend of assuming or jumping to conclusions for answers. This is when people's lives can be destroyed.
Everyone is saying black lives matter, and all lives matter. If this is true then why are we lying about the facts that are ruining people's lives? As far as I know, that is not showing that all lives matter. That is just showing that Americans will believe anything posted on social media. When you see something on social media about a news event, before you are quick to judge, make sure you have the facts straight. Don’t go running to jump on twitter just to bring another person down. At the end of the day, the information that you found is most likely false.
As Americans in today’s society, we have seen so much hate and pain, especially in the past couple of weeks. Instead of coming up with catchy phrases and hashtags on twitter, we need to do something and come together as a country to remember what America was originally built on. America was built on courage, imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. The jobs at hand today are to unite as one once again. Remember: all lives matter.
