Dad,
I want to thank you for never being there for me. Yes, I said that right. By doing this, you taught me that even the people that are supposed to be your role models and those closest to you can fail you in ways you can never imagine.
I want to thank you for denying me certain things. You taught me that I should not need nor ask anything of you because I know I have other people that can support me in ways that you did not.
I want to thank you for being missing in my most important days. My birthday parties, graduations, and my most exciting moments in life. I learned that sometimes, you have to be on your own to realize that you are your best company.
You taught me that my biggest role model is not you, but rather my mom. I've seen my mom struggle in ways you can never imagine because unlike you, she will go to the end of the world to make sure I am set in life and have everything I need.
I want to thank you for never being present during my difficult moments. I learned that I have people around me who aren't even family, that care more about my well being than you ever will.
I also want to thank you for never putting me first. I was always and still am your last resort. Do you really think that an "I love you" text will ever fix things between us?
No amount of time of us talking can ever fix my past and the demons that came with it. The damage has been done and I have seen your true colors as time has passed.
I hope that one day when I make it into the real world and become the masterpiece that I will be, you will realize that I've done marvelous and many things without you or your help.
And lastly, I want to thank you for telling me these words, "I don't regret anything that I have done in my life."
That statement alone speaks volumes as to the person that you truly are.
Thank you, Dad.
