Understanding Yourself For Your Future
Cut through the mess

Its been almost two months since I’ve begun watching, or rather, binging on the series LOST. It wasn’t until I began to realize that each season had a sliver of the idea of life or the purpose of someone’s existence that I began to question my own. What could possibly be the worse thing to go through in life — Failing or never trying, never succeeding? It was a question that was so powerful to me that I had to pause the show every time they mentioned someone’s purpose in general. It catapulted me into this world of thinking that I had truly acknowledged, a type of thinking that brought forth the harsh realities of life.

These questions that often center themselves around life, they can bear a much deeper meaning than just what they hold on the surface. It’s said that in asking yourself the right questions, it can literally awaken a side of you that can help change your life for the better. I can vouch for this. After much thought, I began to ask myself questions about life after college, my potential career path, etc. I was beginning to channel that life-changing decision of putting my best foot forward no matter what the cause, no matter what the obstacle, good or bad. Though, the best thing about it is that these questions don’t require you to give a right or wrong answer. It whatever answer you feel most comfortable with, what you feel is best for you.

So if there is ever a point in time where you feel muddled or LOST:) or don’t know where to go at a certain point in your life, or even, if you feel as though your life is spiraling in so many different directions, just relax and take a few deep breaths. Don’t discourage yourself from gaining the ability to move forward from this small setback you have found yourself in. As long as you know that you are doing the best you can, striving to make a way out of no way, you will find your way again.

Here is a small list of 15 life questions to help get you back on the right track. (You don’t have to ask all of these questions at once, but maybe choose the best ones you feel help with specific situations. Remember to take at least 10 minutes to an hour, or whatever may be best for you. Listen to yourself and what you feel your inner voice is trying to project to you. Don’t be discouraged if the answers you seek don’t come to you right away, it is the process of helping yourself to discover who you are and what you truly want in and from this life that matters the most)…

  1. How can I go about bringing more joy and happiness within my life?
  2. What can I do to always stay positive and fearless, no matter what the circumstances may be?
  3. What steps can I take to lead me in the right direction to reach my dream future right now?
  4. How do I feel about the relationships I have with significant others, friends and family? If it isn’t something I like or if it’s toxic to me and my future, what do I do to change it for the better?
  5. How do I feel about the work that I do for both myself and my job? If it isn’t something I like, what can I do to change that?
  6. How can I go about asking for help from others without feeling guilty? Should I feel guilty about asking others for help when I really need it?
  7. Is there a part(s) of myself that I can make room to improve on? Do I need to make improvements on or within myself?
  8. What is my deepest desire(s) in life? What drives me to continue pressing forward through life?
  9. In what ways can I go about thanking or forgiving a person within/not in my life? What can I learn from these experiences?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
