We grow up watching princesses suffer through a variety of different obstacles throughout their life, only to end up happily ever after with their one true love. We adapt to a lifestyle where we are conditioned to believe that finding your soul mate is the ultimate goal of life, someone to spend a majority of your life with, raise a family and conquer the world with. But most of the time you don’t find your soul mate the first time around. It takes heartbreak, tears, long talks, arguments, and trial and error. It is generally a long, messy, and exhausting process that we never seem to understand or accept the way God has planned our lives to play out. And when heartbreak happens, we try to move on and feel that same passion and excitement we once felt, but it takes time and patience, which can be frustrating. When it begins to take longer than we want to feel back to normal, we look back into the past and ponder the person who was a part of the heartbreak and we start to think we want them back.
That person is essential. That heartbreak my dear is the best and the worst thing that will ever happen to you. And either way, it makes you a stronger. Heartbreak is the result of someone’s complete exposure to vulnerability. It is something that is so pure and naked. The special thing though, if you choose to see it, through the heart clenching, tear jerking experience, is the beauty of love. Your first love is someone you should always have in the back of your mind, because at some point, and maybe you still do, love them. You may have fell in love too early, too late, at different times, or just enough to teach each other lessons about life. You learned what love felt like, what it smelled like, what it looked life, and what it should be. While heartbreak can be long, it can set standards for what you want in the future.
But in all reality, why do we think the answer to our lives is love? Why do we strive to find happiness only the places we lost it? Why can’t we experience heartbreak and envy the potential that that person could come back into our lives, or a new person could make our lives even better? And in the meantime, find things that give us that same fire inside of us. We should grow up learning to love ourselves; we should grow up learning that what our ultimate goal in life should be is to find a passion; something that instills happiness without the means of another being. And maybe, just maybe, when we aren’t busy looking for it, the person meant to come into our lives and stay there forever, from that awful heartbreak or not, will.
