It's that time of year again - yes, that's right, that time when the all of the radio stations play the same five Christmas songs on repeat. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy jamming out to "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" alone in my car because I am not the Grinch, but can they maybe play something I didn't hear five minutes ago on another station? There are so many awesome Christmas songs out there that people often forget about because they aren't considered "classics". I love Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra just as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just need to change up your Christmas playlist.
1. Text Me Merry Christmas - Straight No Chaser ft. Kristen Bell
It's catchy, cute, and culturally relevant. It was released around last year's holiday season and became an instant hit because of its lighthearted nature and mockery of our generations obsession with our phones. Though it's a song that pokes fun at millennials, it has great potential to become a holiday classic. And seriously, who doesn't love Kristen Bell?
2. Drummer Boy - Justin Bieber ft. Busta Rhymes
Ah, the Biebz. How can we forget about Justin's classic Christmas album? There are far too many gems on that album that aren't appreciated nearly enough, but Drummer Boy is surely at the top of the list. The Biebz has taken this song and made it into something truly special- with the help of Busta Rhymes' musical direction. It's hard to beat a Christmas song with multiple rap breakdowns in it.
3. Have Yourself A Very Little Christmas - Sam Smith
If you're in the mood to listen to a literal angel sing about Christmas, it's time you start playing Sam Smith's rendition of this classic. His version will make you feel like curling up in front of a toasty fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and surrounding yourself with the ones you love. Thank you, Sam Smith, I will have myself a merry little Christmas.
4. Santa Tell Me - Ariana Grande
I feel as though this song could be the next "All I Want For Christmas Is You". It's a holiday love song, which is the best kind of holiday tune. Although we can't all have as glorious a voice as Ariana, this original song is easy to sing along to. A modern (and honestly, less creepy) version of Santa Baby, this song adds a little soul to any Christmas playlist.
5. Baby, It's Cold Outside - Seth MacFarlane ft. Sara Bareilles
(Side note: It has always been a dream of mine to sing this duet at one of those adorable themed holiday parties, so feel free to hit me up, boys). This song has arguably been overdone too many times, but Seth and Sara make it completely unique. Honestly, would you ever think of Seth MacFarlane singing a Christmas song and making it beautiful? Because I for one did not. Both Sara and Seth's voices compliment one another making it an excellent and unexpected rendition.
6. That's Christmas to Me - Pentatonix
It's hard to dislike anything Pentatonix sings, but this song is especially hard to hate because of the songs sentimental message. These five voices sing about what Christmas means to them, and I guarantee you will share similar feelings. The song reminds you about the real meaning of the holiday season and will leave you wanting to hug everyone you love immediately.
7. Where Are You Christmas - Faith Hill
Though it's not your typical Christmas song because it starts out a little depressing, the meaning behind it is beautiful. Again, here is another song that reminds us about the real purpose of the holiday season. Sometimes we need to take some time to remember that this time of year is all about being with loved ones and spreading cheer - not material things. Except food - because holiday food is essential in any proper gathering with loved ones.
