Have you considered attending UNCW? They have probably told you all about the academics, all about the beaches (which are a short ten minute drive from campus), or maybe even greek life (but who wants to participate in that?) What they didn't tell you, and what they won't tell you, is that the chancellor, Jose V. Sartarelli, gets free housing and does in fact live in the top of the water tower.
On the base of the water tower, there is a door, and only the chancellor and his family are allowed in their loft which looks over all of campus and beyond. Now, I bet you're thinking, "well where's the water?" Simple, there is none. Under Cameron hall is where all of the water storage lies. Another question which may have popped into mind, "how does he get up there?" This is a question I do not have the answer to, and neither does anyone else. Perhaps an elevator takes him to the top of the tower, perhaps it is a spiral staircase, but considering the way he runs UNCW, it is most likely a rickety ladder he climbs up every day and falls off of at least twice a day. Ever wonder why he sleeps through meetings? It's because he has a chronic concussion. Next time you see him, give him a 'get well soon' card.
One main reason he decided to reside in the water tower is because it is built to withstand hurricanes, as well as any trees around it are not tall enough, nor strong enough, to tear down the tower. While many residents halls and academic buildings were ruined by the notorious hurricane, Florence, two years ago, he did not suffer one bit. And although all on campus residents were sent home due to COVID-19, he was able to stay on campus. Why?
I hope that all prospective UNCW students and current UNCW students see this and spread the word. It is unfair that Saterelli has drained the water tower and reduced the students water supply to water that lies under the business majors' (the dirtiest of the majors) building. Stand up against injustice and demand Saterelli move out of the UNCW water tower. No one, especially Chancellor Spaghetti, deserves over $300,000 salary per year AND free housing in the best view of Wilmington.
