Humility fell upon Number 2 Maryland Terrapins basketball team earlier this week. The Terps played against number 9 UNC Tarheels last week in the most exciting basketball game of the season so far! The atmosphere in Dean Smith Center was electric to say the least. The game started how most Maryland fans expected it to... we are far enough in the season to know that Maryland will 1) start off slow, 2) find a way to get close at half, 3) either absolutely dominate or lose by just a little... and unfortunately, the Terps' perfect season came to an end early.

Maryland Alum Torrey Smith summarized the loss perfectly, "It's still so early in the season... this game will help the young boys out a lot come March! #TerpNation." A loss is never a good thing... unless you learn from it and avoid mistakes in the future, which I'm thinking will happen. The Terps are almost always the underdog when facing the Tar Heels, so this was an unexpected turn of events. North Carolina was formerly best team in the country, that is, until they lost to Northern Iowa. They have had the bitter taste of defeat in their mouths and were hungry for a victory. Just recently, the #1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats lost to the unranked UCLA Bruins.

Nerves played a huge part in Maryland's loss. Maryland is usually the underdog, but for the first time in a while, the Terps were the favorite to come into North Carolina and win. Melo played almost perfectly, except when it came to ball possession. Nerves definitely played a role in all of Maryland's ill-timed passes, traveling, and reckless turnovers. The 89-81 loss is nothing to be ashamed, of considering it was an away game, and Maryland came back the next game to win 96-55.

The University of North Carolina is prestigious and has always had a great athletic program to say the least. I mean, c'mon, even Michael Jordan played for UNC, and I guess you could say he's good (or the greatest to ever play). All that being said, the Terps have the rest of the season to bounce back and I know they will. By the time March rolls around, Maryland will still be highly ranked and will have a great chance to win the national championship.
