Your Ultimate Middle School Dance Playlist

"Guys, this is like, my favorite song ever!"

I remember the good old days of getting ready for a middle school dance. With my 10 closest friends, I'd spend countless hours trying to match my Limited Too top with my Hollister jeans while burning off all my hair as I straightened it for the 10th time that night. Then, with permission slip in hand, we'd head off to the dance (in one of our mom's minivans, of course). Here's a definitive list of all your favorite middle school songs. You're welcome.

1. "1, 2 Step" - Ciara

This was probably the first song you heard when you walked in. You grabbed your squad and headed to the dance floor where you all simultaneously danced to the choreographed dance moves you made up at last week's sleepover.

2. "Smack That" - Akon

You, then, found the rest of your friends and convened by the DJ while evaluating each other's outfits. You'd check out the selection of prospective boys to dance with while also pretending to be super busy on your Motorola Razr.

3. "Sk8er Boi" - Avril Lavigne

You danced your way back to the dance floor with your posse where you all screamed the words to the entire song. You'd also point to your frienemy, who stole your crush, during the "I don't like your boyfriend" part so she'd know you're keeping your eye on her.

4. "Stacy's Mom" - Fountains of Wayne

You'd meet up with the cool boys in your class and all dance to the song together. Towards the end of the song, you'd grab your friends and head to the bathroom to discuss gossip and reapply your lip gloss.

5. "Ignition" - R. Kelly

You didn't really know what the song was about, but it was an excuse to dance with that boy who kept making eye contact with you. Your friends would probably act as wing-women and dance with his friends, too.

6. "Hips Don't Lie" - Shakira

To impress your crush, you'd show off your extensive language skills by singing all the Spanish words really loud. Señora Chabaz would be so proud.

7. "Hollaback Girl" - Gwen Stefani

You'd get back together with your squad and do another choreographed dance. The chaperones would start closing in once they saw some of the moves you'd be doing, but would slowly back off when realizing it was just a harmless posse of sixth graders.

8. "Superman" - Five for Fighting

Finally, a slow song! You'd glance around the room to look for your crush and find him walking towards you. You awkwardly put your hands on his shoulders while he put his hands on your hips. Cue a three-minute awkward swaying motion only for you to run off to rejoin your friends the second the song ends.

9. "All Star" - Smash Mouth

The DJ ends the night with a classic that everyone knows the words to. Halfway through the song, the fluorescent lights start coming back on in the gym and the best night of your middle school career comes to a close.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
