The Ultimate Indie Finals Playlist

Let the independent artists help you through finals week.

Everyone studies for finals differently. Some study with the TV on, some need complete silence, and others need to drown everything else out in music or white noise.

While there are a lot of people who have a faithful artist they stick to for the week, and other listen to theme music so they don't get distracted by lyrics, some people need that extra bit of sound to concentrate on.

Personally, I find it much easier to study when there are lyrics or a good beat to split my attention with, otherwise I can get hyper-focused on a topic and I find it hard to tie my thought together, or stay focused on what I am suposed to be doing. I'm currently listening to "Papernote" by Tigertown as I type this article. Otherwise it probably would not get done until well into the early hours of morning.

And because I'm a huge supporter of independent music, every song on this list is from an indie artist whose songs are just as good, if not better, than your average Top 40 list.

1. "Adore" by Amy Shark

If you take nothing else from this, at least add this song to your Spotify. Seriously. You're missing out.

Check it out here:

2. "Speechless" by Glades

This will not be the last time you see Glades on this list!

Check it out here:

3. "Conrad" by SOHN

Check it out here:

4. "Getting over You" by LUCA

If nothing else, check out this song for it's unique musical composition. It transcends. (Plus LUCA looks remarkably like a mix between Dylan O'Brien and Evan Peters)

Check it out here:

5. "Little Brother" by Ella Vos

"Little Brother" is just a beautiful song in general, plus it has a a quieter tone that will allow you to focus on your work without being worried about being distracted by the beat.

Check it out here:

6. "Miffed" by Tom Rosenthal

Actually, you should really just go look up Tom Rosenthal in general. That man is an absolute musical genius.

Check it out here:

7. "little light" by Lewis Watson

Check it out here:

8. "Grease" by Flo Morrissey and Matthew E. White

This cover of "Grease" is absolutely beautiful, and while it's not the Frankie Valli, it is still a beautifully performed song.

Check it out here:

9. "Something New" by Secret Weapons

This song is just infectious. It'll get stuck in your head in the absolute best way!

Check it out here:

10. "Babylon" by Half the Animal

Check it out here:

11. "Wasting Time" by Day Wave

This song describes what you are doing currently while reading this article. Let's be honest, you should be studying instead of reading up on finals playlists, but who can study without the perfect indie ballad playing in the background?

Check it out here:

12. "Lonely Cities" by Tigertown

Tigertown again! (There's a reason these groups make it on here more than once)

Check it out here:

13. "Gooey" by Glass Animals

Check it out here:

14. "Skylines" by Glades

Another track by Glades has found its way onto this list. Why? Because I haven't stopped listening to this incredible group this entire month. Their lyrics combine with an electro-pop-esque feel that ties together their music beautifully.

Check it out here:

15. "Honey" by TRACE

Check it out here:

I hope you were able to create a new finals playlist from this article, but if not, at least it gave you a distraction form studying!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
