If we’re talking honestly, the best type of nights are stay-in movie nights where you lose track of time because you know that you can sleep in the next morning. You stay up late watching movies and crying your eyes out and laughing until your stomach hurts and feeling all the emotions in one night. I’m a sucker for really good ’80’s movies, but the entire 20th century had a solid bought of movies that came out of it. Typically, I’m much more a fan of older movies rather than those that come out in theatre’s today. So, in order to help out fellow movie lovers, I have compiled a list of what would be my type of epic movie night. I hope that you find some in here that you enjoy and can add to your list as well.
1. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
The best of the Audrey Hepburn movies in my opinion. If you like this one then definitely check out some of her other ones as well, including Funny Face, Sabrina, and Roman Holiday. Black and white movies are so classic, and Hepburn is such an icon. And I dare you to not cry during the rain scene.
2. The Breakfast Club (1985)
When I think of my favorite ’80’s movie this is the first one that comes to my head every single time. It isn’t necessarily a feel-good movie, it is pretty heavy at times. But a fantastic movie nonetheless. Your life will certainly change after watching it as you think about the way you judge other people. And yes, Pitch Perfect was correct when it said that this has the best movie ending in the history of movie endings.
3. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
You won’t ever drop your car off at a garage again without wondering what happens to it while you’re gone. You’ll also probably go through life wondering why your high school experience wasn’t as epic as this. And then you’ll decide you want a day off from whatever it is that you do to try and have a story such as Bueller.
4. Love Story (1970)
The original Nicholas Sparks tear jerker chick flick movie. My heart hurts when I watch this because it is so good, and so touching. It captures love in the most beautiful way, and has also been included in many lists of Best Valentine’s Day movies to watch. It really is romantic and wonderful and definitely in my top five all time favorite movies.
5. Titanic (1997)
Let’s just say there was most certainly room for two people on that door and leave it at that. Otherwise completely epic.
6. Clueless (1995)
Cher is most certainly an icon of mine after watching this movie. How can you not admire her confidence and attitude? She’s a go-getter, and this movie is just so fabulous for a good movie night.
7. Space Jam (1996)
Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes? Awesome. Most definitely one of my favorite sports movies because it’s just so great, I don’t even know how to put it into words.
8. Wayne’s World (1992)
If you want a good laugh then this movie is for sure the way to go. If we’re talking about some of the best movie scenes ever, the head banging to Bohemian Rhapsody in the car is certainly up there. The ending is great too, a feel good, stomach hurting from laughing, fabulous rock ’n roll movie.
9. Forrest Gump (1994)
This movie is for sure one of the best movies of all time, in any category. There can’t be a movie list without Forrest Gump because it’s full of memorable lines and lovable characters and a story line that gives you all the emotions within the 2 and a half hour span the movie takes up. The serious issues and the lifelong friendships and the love and happiness and social statements make up one fantastic movie.
10. Home Alone (1990)
Christmas is great, movies are great, therefore Christmas movies are unbeatable. Even though the movie is pretty unrealistic, it’s hard to beat this Christmas classic. You’ll also start to plot what you would do if you were in Kevin’s situation and realize that you’ll never be as smart as this boy.
11. My Girl (1991)
Young love in a nutshell. Warning - do not watch when in public. I watched this while people were walking by me and I was sobbing so uncontrollably that I was offered tissues more times than I thought possible. Your heart will be filled with warmth once the tears empty out.
