UK Students Introduce The Bar Hop App

It is a recurring dilemma that the majority of students at the University of Kentucky face each weekend: What bar should I go to tonight? With the abundance of bars in Lexington spread miles apart, making the wrong choice could end up ruining an entire night. In order to solve this problem, two UK students Alexander Hamilton and Maged Saeed created The Bar Hop app. Realizing there are limited ways to connect to the bars that we frequent so often, Hamilton and Saeed took it into their own hands to connect students that attend the bars through an interactive mobile app available only for students across Lexington.

The Bar Hop informs users what bars their friends are at/planning to go to, how many friends are there, and the male to female ratio at each location. Each user has their own username and is able to connect and add friends via phone contacts and Facebook friends. This way, it is not necessary for you to send your whole contact book a text asking, “what the move is," but rather you can simply sign into The Bar Hop to plan out your night on the town. In addition to connecting you with friends, The Bar Hop will also feature the corresponding drink menu and prices upon check in and potentially advertise each bar's specials, covers, and what kind of events are going on at any particular night. You will even have the option of buying someone a drink through the app by simply pressing a button. The Bar Hop will then send a notification saying, “(This Bar Hop user) would like to buy you a drink" with the option to accept or decline. All these features combined will provide users with everything they need to ensure a successful night out.

The founders have high hopes for this groundbreaking app in a market where so many people attend the bars on a frequent basis. Co-founder Maged Saeed said “the goal of The Bar Hop is to eventually be a trusted social media network for bar goers and spread to college towns all across the United States."

The Bar Hop is downloadable for free at the iTunes app store. Be sure to like The Bar Hop on Facebook and follow @The_BarHop on Twitter for the latest updates. Don't make the mistake of heading out to the wrong bar next weekend and get The Bar Hop app to ensure that your night is one to be remembered, or maybe not.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
