Bigs and Littles, also known as Beta Lambda, BΛ, is a sisterhood of girls with at least one thing in common: their love for Christ. Our mission is to create a sisterhood for girls at the University of the Cumberlands. We have rush week, reveal and several events throughout the year to help girls find their place on campus and to have sisters to lean on when they need love and support.
It started out with a couple of girls wanting more unity on campus. There are too many cliques, and we felt there needed to be a ministry where girls could be exactly who God called them to be and meet people outside of their "clique." At first, it started with a girl in Baptist Campus Ministries, BCM, she had the connections to help get funding for Bigs and Littles to start the ministry. She got in contact with a junior who wanted the same things. A couple of girls got together after that and that was the beginning of Bigs and Littles. We've grown every semester in our numbers, and it's becoming more organized and successful as time goes on. It is becoming the sisterhood it was meant to be! Girls who normally wouldn't hang out get the chance to because of Bigs and Littles. We come together and do charity work, host bible lessons and have some pretty awesome parties and events throughout the year. And as a group we are able to minister not only to the community but also to people at events such as the animal shelter and homeless shelter where our organization does volunteer work. We try to spread God's word to every girl we come in contact with at UC.
A few photos from events such as Halloween Party, volunteer work, Black-light Party, Christmas Party and an example of our shirts. It's loads of fun.
What Bigs and Littles means to me
As a freshmen coming into UC I was lost and scared. When I saw the flyers about rush week, I thought that it seemed cool. I went to an ice cream social where I filled out a paper explaining who I was. After that, I was put into a family and met my big and had some littles, my siblings. With my family I was able to have dinner and dress up for the Halloween party with them and just get closer. I was blessed to have those girls in my family. I was going through a rough time and I felt safe with them. As the year progressed and I had a life-altering tragedy happen to me, I was more lost than ever. Those girls prayed for me and made me want to come back to school. I was scared and broken. Through my sisters, this ministry, I felt God calling me to come back to college. They have continued to help me grow as a Christian and become a part of their ministry and to help share my testimony. That is what Bigs and Littles has meant to me, becoming a part of a sisterhood and ministry.
