A Typical White Girl's Ode To Fall

I am your most basic, typical white girl and now that Fall has fallen, I am thriving. This is my time to shine. With the leaves changing, there are several characteristics of the season that deserve to be cherished and praised for their impact on my life. Such features may seem trivial to those who are not typical white girls, but have no fear! We, TWGs, are more than willingly to share with you our appreciation for these monumental Fall virtues.

1) Thank you Fall for the sweater weather (and boots... and a scarf).

Thank you for being just cold enough to be warm in a sweater or flannel. Thank you for not being too cold that I need gloves or a coat. Thank you for allowing me to wear cute scarves and perhaps a vest that does not actually keep me warm in anyway. Thank you for 30 percent off coupons for J. Crew.

2) Thank you Fall for giving me crunchy leaves to step on.

Thank you for making the perfect amount of noise when I step on them. Thank you for being so satisfying.

3) Thank you Fall for allowing me to find the perfect pumpkin to take a picture with.

Thank you for finding the perfect filter on Instagram. Thank you for getting me a lot of likes on Instagram. Thank you for giving me something to do with my boyfriend, friends or family.

4) Thank you Fall for the beginning of "cuffing season."

Thank you for the cooler weather which manipulates boys into thinking that they want a girlfriend. Thank you for fun dates to go on with a potential suitor, like pumpkin patch, apple picking, etc. Thank you for letting me look flirty and cuddly in my scarf.

5) Thank you Fall for Halloween.

Thank you for giving me a chance to be anything that I want. Thank you for giving me a chance to eat an exponential amount of candy. Thank you for making it socially acceptable for me to dress kind of slutty.

6) Thank you Fall for Thanksgiving.

Thank you for having a day designated for gratitude and spending time with family...And eating. Thank you for giving me a chance to exponentially eat whatever and however much I want. Thank you for Auntie Susan's stuffing.

7) Thank you Fall for all of your artificially made scents.

Thank you for my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle from Bath and Body Works. Thank you for making my whole house smell like autumn.

8) Thank you Fall for Football season.

Thank you for letting me wear my logo-sticker next to my eye. Thank you for camaraderie. Thank you for tailgates. Thank you for meatballs at tailgates.

9) Thank you Fall for my Pumpkin Spice Latte (particularly from Starbucks).

Thank you for making sure that the to-go cup always has a heat-protectant sleeve to guard my delicate hands from burning. Thank you for not making my breath smell, unlike other coffee products. Thank you for still having enough caffeine to get me through exam week. Thank you for having warm and soothing pumpkin undertones that transport me into a realm of autumn euphoria.

To my dear Fall, I know that you must leave me so quickly, but I promise that my love for you will never waver. I will see you next year, ready to greet you with a smile and a PSL.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
