You're sitting there, staring at your unfinished English paper, and suddenly you find yourself clicking your way through the internet. It doesn't take you long before you end up somewhere within the depths of YouTube. Somehow, two hours later, you find yourself watching a video on major blackhead extractions or five easy ways you can clean your kitchen cabinets. The reality is that YouTube draws us to it like a magnet when we should be doing other, probably more important, things.

That being said, here are six types of videos you likely end up watching instead of doing whatever it is you're supposed to be doing.

1. Buzzfeed

They call Buzzfeed a hole for a reason. Once you get sucked into one video you just find yourself clicking on whatever other Buzzfeed videos show up in the sidebar. From watching people try foods from different countries to see drunk people being surprised with puppies, Buzzfeed seems to have it all. But before you know it, those short 3-minute videos turn into 3 hours of watch time.

2. Top 10s

There’s nothing that defines “click bait” quite as much as a video titled, “Top 10 TRUE and HORRIFYING Cases of Alien Abductions”. So, of course, you need to know what these 10 cases are and end up clicking away. Top 10 lists have flooded YouTube in recent years due to how quickly viewers will get sucked into them. There are even channels solely dedicated to these lists, so when you don’t feel like doing work you can click on every last one of their videos instead.

3. Reaction videos

For some reason, we just love to watch other people watching things. Maybe we get some bizarre feeling of authority out of seeing unsuspecting individuals viewing something that we know the outcome of. Or maybe we just want to waste time watching people react to jump scares while having that term paper looming over our head

4. How-tos and tutorials

Do want to know how to survive a wild animal attack? Or how to apply the perfect glitter eyeshadow? Well, if you’re ever looking for useless knowledge then YouTube is the perfect place to go for that. I mean, why study for that math final when you can be learning how to play that guitar you don’t even own instead?

5. Hot Knives and other weird compilations

Have you ever seen a hot knife cut through a bar of soap? How about a hydraulic press crushing a roll of toilet paper? If you haven’t, then maybe you should check them out and experience the strange sense of satisfaction that you feel from watching them. These oddly satisfying compilation videos have millions upon millions of views on YouTube, and you can be sure that many of those views are coming from people putting off getting work done.

6. Cute animals

This was a given, wasn’t it? After all, who doesn’t like a video of a cute cat hugging its baby kitten? Cute animal videos just never get old, and they can work as a major de-stressor when you’re feeling overwhelmed with work. If there was a ranking list for the most distracting videos on the internet, you can be sure that animal videos would be right at the top.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
