Growing old is tough, but you definitely don't have to go through it alone.
As I've aged, I've realized the significance of having a strong support system in my life. Whether it's adult-like figures or close friends, they have kept me truly grounded throughout the years. These are the people in my life who push me to become a better individual and help me realize my full potential. What I've noticed is how there are different categories of individuals and how they've helped me strive to become a better well-rounded person in everything that I do.
5) The Parent
The one who continuously checks up on you, despite the circumstances. They look out for your well-being and want you to be prosperous in life. They're normally the wisest of the friend group and typically have control of numerous situations. A perfect example of this would be the DD (designated driver) of parties. It's their responsibility to make sure you don't drink yourself into a coma and leave the party in one piece.
4) The Mentor
The one who gives you life-changing advice. Whether it's personal or academic, this individual will help you prosper down the road. This would be the authority figure in your life who gives you advice when you're not sure what decisions to make. They give you life-changing guidance, hyping you up and motivating you to do and be better.
3) The Realist
The one who keeps you leveled. Some of the stuff that comes out of their mouth might not be exactly the nicest, but they'll keep you from making unrealistic goals. They're the ones who will challenge your dreams, not in a way where they discourage you from pursuing them, but more so that you remain grounded and realistic.
2) The Listener
Their only purpose in your friendship is to listen to you vent it out. They're the shoulder you cry on when times get tough and you just need someone to be there. This person is critical in your support system because they give you an opportunity to let your voice be heard. It's not healthy to keep things bottled up, so it's refreshing to have that one person in your life who will listen to your every word.
1) The Partner in Crime
The one who makes sure you don't lose your innocence. With adulthood right around the corner, there's so much pressure on you to grow up fast and take on responsibility all at once. That's why it's healthy to have someone around who lets you bring out your inner-child. Whether it's late night drives blasting music or eating five order of french fries in one sitting, they make sure you don't do it alone.
