When moving to college, it’s impossible to not start meeting people right away. There’s that chatterbox who will sit next to you in class or that really sweet person you’ll meet in an organization. There are so many interesting people to meet. One person that can be especially interesting is your roommate. Being it’s my fourth year of college, I’ve had my share of roomies. You name the type of roommate, I guarantee I’ve had it. Here’s are some you might come across in your college journey.
1. The Slob
If you walk in to your roommate’s room, well at least attempt to, and you can’t see the floor due to the amount of clothes, books, and dare I ask what else, you’re roommate is messy. If they could, they would stack their dirty dishes into an extremely tall tower in the kitchen sink just to avoid cleaning them, and you will always find random things that belong to them strewn across your apartment. If you ever find one random shoe laying around, don’t question it. It’s this roommate’s shoe, I promise.
2. Boy Obsessed
Don’t be startled when you go in to the kitchen at midnight for a glass of water and find a guy in your apartment doing the same thing, or maybe you’ll open up the dryer and see a pile of men’s clothes sitting there. This roomie has a soft spot for guys, and inevitably this means that you’ll probably be hearing a deep man voice chatting with her in her room until 2 am. Look on the bright side, instead of having one roomie, you now have two! You’re welcome!
3. The Overachiever
How do you “school” you ask? Well this roomie has got your answer. They are the Beyonce of college and rule over all of the other students below them by making the best grades, being president of thirty organizations (okay, maybe I’m exaggerating there) and juggling a social life all at the same time. This means you’ll never be surprised when you shoot them a text asking where they are and they reply with “library” or “at work” when you didn’t even know they had a new job. This is the roomie that will most likely pass up a party because they have to be awake at 8:00 am for a meeting the next morning.
4. The Hermit
This roomie’s idea of a wild night is Netflix and a gallon of ice cream. They won’t go to a party with you. They won’t go to an interest meeting for an organization with you, and they definitely won’t be making an appearance if you have people over for a game night. Their door might be closed, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t home, their just hiding. This is okay, don’t be offended or weirded out. Some people don’t like other people. Can you blame them really?
5. The "Borrower"
If you begin finding that your things are disappearing, you will most likely find them laying around this roomie’s room. They often send you quick texts while you’re away, asking to borrow a dress for an event. Just be careful because sometimes when they “borrow” that dress you’ll never see it again, until their wearing three weeks later and you say, “Hey, I’ve been wondering where that went!”
6. The Wild One
This roomie’s life motto is I did not choose the party life, the party life chose me. This is the roomie that stays out until 3 am and stumbles their way back to your place with a broken heel and a lost ID. How they do it, no one knows. You’re best conversations with them are the ones the morning after a wild night, with last night’s mascara still on, reminiscing on all of the things they regret doing. This roomie will sometimes be drunk on a Wednesday night and it doesn’t make sense to you, but it’s them.
7. The Hippie
This roomie may come home with random cats or other assortment of animals because they found them and have too big of a heart to let them wander the streets. Walking in to their room, is like traveling into a hollow hippie cave. Their walls are covered in tapestries and the air is filled with incense. You often question how many times they have showered in the last week, and never see them wearing shoes.
