Music is a great way of boosting your mood, helping you relax, or helping you focus. When writing papers, I always listen to music in order to tune out any other conversations/actions going on around me. Here are some types of music that can help you survive and, most importantly, enjoy college.
1. Classical
Classical Music is a bit old school – well, really old school – but it has been proven to be great for studying. Also, according to netshark.com, studies have found that classical music can lower blood pressure and stress levels, and help you get a better night's sleep. Whether you’re writing a paper, want to relax or read a book, any classical music makes a great companion.

2. Hype (varies)
Planning a party? Want to be in a great mood? Want to dance alone in your dorm room to your favorite songs? Then any music that makes you hyped or excited is what you need. Playing music that you like boosts serotonin levels, therefore boosting your mood. Plus, it’s a great way to escape the pressures of the day or provide a great study break.

3. Classic Rock/Country/Old Music/Disney/etc.
Now this genre is definitely old school, but it’s nice to have in a playlist. If you grew up listening to your parents music, or whatever music was around when you were little, it's always a great way to reminisce about your childhood, and it can make you feel pretty good. Also, who doesn't want to be a kid again?

4. Ambient/relaxing
Find some music that relaxes you! Maybe you’ve had a bad day, didn’t do so well on that paper for that class that's just so hard, or maybe just want to take a nap. Like classical music, ambient or other relaxing music helps lower stress levels and blood pressure. Either way, finding some ambient music can help you chill out (and maybe meditate) after a long day.
