So everyone pretty much is in agreement that Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime performance stole the show. Well, actually, her dancing sidekick sharks did. Social media has named each ocean predator Left Shark and Right Shark, respectively. After analyzing the performance given by each aquatic performer, I’ve decided that college students take after one of the two. So which one are you? Left Shark or Right Shark?
Left Shark.
Left Shark likes to party. Clearly. He’s dancing on stage with Katy Perry surrounded by single-toothed beach balls and dancing palm trees. An avid watcher of Shark Week each summer, I have yet to see a special on how Great Whites prefer to party. So I am assuming that what Left Shark did at halftime is what all sharks do. College kids who are out every weekend and not afraid to get down with their bad selves are surely a Left Shark.
Let’s be honest… Left Shark forgot his moves. It was pretty obvious. But like any savvy college student, he just went with it. We screw up. We make ourselves look bad. But we do not quit. NO QUITTING. We have degrees and jobs to get and we also look fabulous while doing it. Left Shark lost his groove, but like any skilled college kid, he managed to finish the show.
Left Shark marches to the beat of his own drum. He doesn’t care what the media or Twitter says. The college student equivalent of Left Shark is pursuing a major that, despite being told he or she will never make any money, says "screw you I do what I want." Go ahead, make a meme out of me, says Left Shark. I embrace my unique qualities.
Right Shark.
Right Shark has his act together. He is coordinated and crisp and precise. College students like Right Shark have all of their folders and notebooks and files labeled accordingly and do not stray from organization.
Okay, yes, Right Shark also likes to have a good time. He too was bumping with Katy Perry. But Right Shark likes to play it safe and he surely doesn’t like to break the rules. A night out bowling or going to the movies is more their cup of tea.
If you’re a loyal friend, you are a Right Shark. Unable to let down his girl KP, Right Shark hit every move to a tee. If you have a best friend, chances are one of you is Katy and one of you is Right Shark. You don’t let your friends down and sure as heck won’t ruin the biggest performance of their life.
At the end of the day, both Left and Right Shark are killer performers. Millions of dollars were spent on that halftime show, and yet they managed to be the most talked-about stars of the night. Whether or not you identify most with Left Shark or Right Shark as a college student, I think it's safe to say we have all found our newest spirit animals. Or at the very least, spirit fish.
